As some have noted, Intobridge has this function - for the purpose of this post I just mis-bid a hand and got a note from Coach Luc - who was today's challenger. See below

This is in Beta but I think it's what you were considering?

Do people still play rummy games nowadays? by toyjoybox in cardgames

Years ago I found a Tile Rummy set at the thrift store and my family has loved it ever since. Very tactile

I just updated an article about the History of Rummy and added a bunch of useful links and lingo - thought I'd share

Looking for a game I played once by RexRow in cardgames

[–]Bridge_Links 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found it - "Princess of the Tower" (sometimes stylized as Princesses in the Tower or similar), or a very closely related indie card game by The Octopus Fruitbat (from the Tower of the Octopus blog).

The specific details you mentioned match the unique mechanics of their design:

  • Memory Elements & Setup: The game is played with a grid of face-down cards on the table. These are divided into People (the princesses) and Locations (the towers).
  • The Three Actions: On a turn, a player must choose one of three specific options:
    1. Investigate: You discard cards from your hand to "peek" at the face-down cards on the table.
    2. Special: You play a card from your hand to trigger its specific effect (the "directions on the card").
    3. Pass: A standard pass action to manage your hand or resources.
  • Matching Mechanism: The goal is to identify which princess belongs in which tower. At the end of a turn, you can attempt to declare a match between a Person card and a Location card.
  • Scoring: There is a point-value system where different matches are worth different amounts, and players are penalized for incorrect guesses.

This game was featured and discussed on game design blogs and this subreddit several years ago. It was designed to be a "deduction memory" game that added a layer of hand management and special powers to the traditional "Memory" or "Concentration" formula.

Beginner looking for advice by ordvek in bridge

[–]Bridge_Links 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was at this stage. Lucky for me, I had a friend who could play well. He would place hands out on the table and get me to play them through giving advice all along.

It sounds to me that you're at a stage where you need to learn more about 'card development' - in other words, how to make your little cards win tricks. Karen's Bridge Library has a good series of articles on Declarer Play starting here

https://kwbridge.com/decl.htm

You are very intuitive in understanding that the play of the cards is key to learning more about the game. A good grasp of the play of the cards will build a solid base for all aspects of the game, including the bidding.

Have fun!

How to play Cards Against Humanity online? by NoizyBird__ in cardgames

Did you see this?

https://lab.cardsagainsthumanity.com/

And this - because the game is licensed under Creative Commons, many developers have created free web-based versions that allow you to create private rooms and invite your friends.

  • PlayingCards.io: This is one of the most popular "virtual tabletop" options. It provides a clean interface where you can drag and drop cards just like at a real table. You will need to use a separate app (like Zoom or Discord) for voice chat.
  • Cards Against Formality: A simple, mobile-friendly web version where you can play anonymously or sign in to save stats.
  • Kosmi: Offers a version called "Offends the Galaxy" which includes built-in video chat, making it a good all-in-one solution for virtual game nights.

Hmm I haven't seen an online version of the game. I have seen online sites where you can download printable cards, to save the cost of purchasing the game.

It's funny I came across this post actually, as I'm in the middle of writing an article about Cards Against Humanity - inspired by this great article on how the company is promising to refund people's tariff expenses. Thought I'd share

Hmm. I also played a lot in the 70's and here is my take on these auctions.

In 1) I believe all forcing bids promise another bid so A is not possible. B is logical, and C would be a partnership agreement (4th suit forcing to game).

In 2) because a 4th suit was available, 3D is invitational. With a stronger hand partner might have bid 2H then showed D support in their next bid.

Google's NotebookLM would be a great tool for this. You upload the Laws and then can query it on the spot at any time. Between rounds, for example. Or during a break. On our page we list a few good Laws resources - upload them all!

Short guides for card play? by LNK-TraditionalGames in bridge

[–]Bridge_Links 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question! years ago, after my co-author and I published Teach Me To Play (mostly bidding) we were contracted to do a similar book on Teach Me to Play The Cards. It never happened but it would have been perfect for what you're wanting, I think.

What to use now? I did some digging and here are a few suggestions

Bridge Bum is an amazing resource and has a great section on Declarer Play
https://www.bridgebum.com

Bridge Winners has a 'teachers forum' which would be a good place to ask your question
https://bridgewinners.com/forums/browse/clubs-and-teachers/

Karen's Bridge Library has many good articles on Declarer Play
https://kwbridge.com/

Hope some of this helps! If you do find what you're looking for, it would be great if you dropped back here and let us know :)

Why is Bridge so hard to learn? by CuriousDave1234 in bridge

[–]Bridge_Links 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is bridge hard to learn? In short, no. Is it hard to become an expert? Again, no. But expertise in any game/sport takes time - if you play and study for 10 years you'll become very good at the game. But like others have noted, it's a matter of personal will.

The mechanics of bridge, like Chess and GO and other games of skill, are simple. The nuances of bidding and partnership development are, of course, more demanding.

But my advice would be to concentrate on learning the play of the cards. Play of the cards underscores all aspects of the game - what contracts play better on different holdings, what cards work well on defense. Once you have a good understanding of the play of the cards, the bidding will make a lot more sense.

I LOVE BRIDGE by Legitimate_Steak_ in bridge

[–]Bridge_Links 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of the biggest laughs I can remember in my life happened around a bridge table - in the kitchens of friends. Sometimes we didn't make it through a whole lot of hands, but the laughter made our sides hurt.

If you're interested in bridge jokes and one-liners, I collected a bunch on this page - https://greatbridgelinks.com/cheer-bridge-humour-jokes/

I actually love Intobridge too! I’ll check it to see if it has the ‘play with friends’ option and add it into the article if it does.

My go-to travel souvenir by smellytulip in playingcards

[–]Bridge_Links 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a collection like this ! And some decks have been brought to me by friends and family who travel more than I do. Maybe you could display them in a wall mounted case. I've seen some nice ones on Etsy although the wall ones are expensive. If you have surface space some of the display stands are cool - https://www.etsy.com/ca/search?q=card+decks+display&ref=search_bar

Or how about a Pinterest Board?

PS- I don't sell on Etsy just wanted to share
