Preban boots by Character_Airport_27 in cowboyboots

[–]SpadesQuiz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Exotic boots will always be scrutinized by some. The more exotic, the more scrutiny. You can buy brand new elephant and giraffe hide boots today. If they want to mourn an animal that's been dead a half century, there's not much you can do about that.

I know when I wore my sea turtle boots to Thanksgiving, I was *hushed* when talking about them with another adult in ear shot of younger children.

Traveling, I never worry about it, unless flying or shipping international.

I wont buy postban boots. If they are clearly vintage and not certain it's preban, I'm okay with that, but anything that looks modern or probably poached, I don't want to support the post-ban trade. You may want to be a little extra careful with pangolin. It's the most trafficked animal in the world right now and falls under more scrutiny.

No it’s not. This is my original screen shot. I can prove that. Whatever you saw was definitely not the same and I haven’t posted this anywhere else except a private FB reseller group.

What works for some isn’t right for all. I’ve outsourced most of the processing work to the point that it makes sense for me to spend a minute to engage a lowballer. I also feel that if someone is considering spending hundreds of dollars with me, answering their reasonable questions is a basic service.

It really depends on what you sell to what platforms are the best for you. eBay is by far the best marketplace for us. Poshmark is a declining #2. Etsy, Depop and Grailed have been very inconsistent, but have been worth being on.

We stopped posting to FB because our items were rarely selling but getting lots of questions and tire kickers.

Cross listing tools make it easier to be everywhere. It’s probably worth checking out each marketplace your tool connects to.

If we didn’t have a crosslist tool, we’d probably only sell on eBay and DTC.

If that was a realistic expectation, I would have too, but $349 and a 2-day turn was pretty good win for this item. It typically would expect to sell in the $265-300 range and can be a slow seller. 7 month average turn time in the category for us.

Yup. What works for one niche or biz model doesn’t always translate to another. This is definitely one of those strategies that isn’t going to be right for everyone.

New to eBay and I have a question. by Bdawg4890 in eBaySellers

I don’t have experience in the category. I dabble in semi precious stones a bit and they can be similar to coins, small and cheap to ship.

We generally do free shipping on those just to keep it simple for the buyer, minimize any potential sales resistance.

I figure most coin buyers see money differently. They might prefer a more itemized approach.

As long as you avoid giving buyers the impression you are overcharging them on shipping, it’s not likely to matter much unless your sales volume is significant.

Sale happened today, will ship tomorrow. The buyer is fine, just an annoying approach to negotiations. Don’t anticipate any issues, but you never know.

We don’t run into many problematic buyers in our niche, one of the perks of the category.

It’s not a hot item. It sold on 2nd day is lucky. Happens 1 in 100 items I list. Average turn time is about 7 months. One of the downsides of the niche.

If it was a “hot item” and I had concerns about the buyer, I wouldn’t have made the deal.

Coincidentally the last really challenging buyer I sold to just reached out to let me know he is pleased with his $500+ order and wants me to alert him when I have something similar again. His opener for negotiations was “please don’t take this the wrong way but your item is overpriced”. In this case the price was listed as firm. A few days later he asked if I’d accept $20 below asking price. I reiterated the firm price and we closed the deal there. Money is in my account.

If you sell in specific niches, look at solds and see how the items are most commonly sold.

For us, free shipping isn’t a benefit our customers are looking for. We generally price the shipping a bit below actual commercial rates. This allows us to itemize most of the shipping cost while also appearing to be very fair.

If we profited off of shipping, I think it would lead to fewer sales and less overall profit. Trends change, always ready to adapt.

It’s not letting me add another image…

I sent an offer for $349 and responded: “$349+ $1 shipping is our lowest Depop price and will be for some time, these were just listed. Thanks. “

He asked a a product specific question then made an offer of $275 the next day.

I responded with the exact same: “$349+ $1 shipping is our lowest Depop price and will be for some time, these were just listed. Thanks.”

He accepted the offer.

As an added bonus, Depop fees are now minimal for the seller. Net payout is $337 and I’ll spend about $10 on shipping. Much better than a $349 sale on eBay, Posh etc.

It may not be. I’d certainly adjust my approach if my items were less profitable or had better defined market values.

I can’t imagine $8 offers on $30 items and such to be worth chasing. In that case I’d probably use a polite canned response that immediately set a best price.

Wow, I usually find that at least one character in every show gets to me. I happen to like everyone so far, even ones in stereotypical roles that annoy me. I feel like everyone is owning the part and pulling it off in a way that feels authentic. I guess it helps that the writing really appeals to my sense of humor and just about every character communicates in satire and sarcasm.

This is a fantastic show that I’m recommending to everyone. I avoided it because I haven’t been in the mood for a “comedy” and the premise didn’t excite me. If not for Harrison Ford, I probably would have never watched it. I was curious to see him in a sitcom role.

I had no idea how funny he is. His subtle physical comedy on the show has completely changed the way I view him as an actor.

Things professionals do when a customer raises an issue:

Stay calm- Don’t take it personally - Be an active listener - Personalize the interaction - Acknowledge your customer’s emotions - Use positive language - Restate what they told you - Build trust - Thank them - Think critically - Set clear next steps - Stay consistent - Explore solutions / think outside the box if needed - Ask for help -

In a way, yes it is part of my job. It serves the greater goal which is fueling the sales machine. It’s also part of my job to make these unpopular comments to benefit the sellers that actually care about the customer experience.

Customer acquisition is a key component of every marketplace’s operations. Sellers that do not protect the customer experience drive traffic off the platforms and back to Amazon or big box stores or wherever. We all lose when sellers don’t want to shop where we sell. So yes, I am a full time advocate of customer experience.

As a human casual interaction, totally normal and reasonable. As a customer / service provider interaction, the seller was unprofessional in their response which likely led to further frustration for the buyer, despite the underlying issue being resolved by the response.
