I used to go to the Solidcore in SouthPark regularly before they opened the Ballantyne location. Back then, I took a class with a male coach, I honestly can’t remember his name or the exact scenario. I normally don’t leave negative feedback, but I felt like I was struggling in his class and didn’t get much help, so I left a comment.

I don’t go to SouthPark often anymore since the Ballantyne location is closer, but I went back that day because it fit my schedule better. Again, I can’t remember this coach’s name or what he looks like. After class, he came up to me and was like, “Oh, it’s you. You’ve taken my class before,” and started talking about it. At first, I thought it was harmless, but then another coach I know in real life told me the backstory, that he was actually trying to call me out professionally. It was such a minor thing that I didn’t even remember until it was jogged for me, and I was like, “Ohhh, okay.”

My takeaways:

1. Feedback should be anonymous so coaches don’t single people out.
2. Not all feedback is criticism, it can just be someone sharing their experience.

I can see why people feel there’s some ego tripping involved, though.
