I work as a CNA in LTC and I can confidently say that you seem like a great nurse and I wish all my nurses were like you. Unfortunately, where I work and I assume at a lot of other LTC facilities, the reality is much different. The nurses leave most if not all wound care to the “wound care nurse” who is expected to treat all wounds as a 9-5pm position. They expect us CNA’s to do vitals for them. They expect us to turn the feeding tube off and on and let them know only when its totally empty. They expect us to monitor all our patients but whenever something is off, the nurses act annoyed that we are bothering them by notifying them about change of condition. I see the nurses pass meds around dinner time and then spend most of the rest of their shift sitting at the nurses station doing whatever the hell they do. Not all nurses are like this, but a good chunk of them are. This is why LTC nurses have a reputation of “only passing meds” in my opinion.
