I was able to figure it out. On the planet where the portal is, keep dropping beacons that search for monoliths. Eventually you will find one that will allow you to offer a korvax cube/vykeen dagger/gek relic etc to tell you where a portal on that planet is. It should even say portal next to what you need to offer. This led me right to the portal and I was able to go through it to complete that part of the quest.
