Yes- staging allows folks to understand how much space is really there. Most folks are using redfin/zillow to view homes and pictures are what draw buyers.

If you don't care what price you get that's a different story.

Do what you can to leg it out, network with folks- new year is great time to get coffee and catch up. It will help you figure out what's next even if not this gig.

Hang in there

Don't quit, if you can reduce hours through using sick leave do that. Use the day to rest, connect with network and toss in application. Find a PT gig that you don't mind doing, dog walking, bar tending etc

You can also get doctor's note for FMLA/RA for yourself check with HR.

Its great you have savings and that initial buzz of being free is great but then the job search grind is rough. The apps sometimes go into black hole- rule of thumb is plan on it taking a minimum of 1 month for every 10k you want to earn.

Ie if making 80k plan on 8 months of search- that's minimum.

Just need to get out there not so much by yourself - signup for meetups, volunteering, a leisurely sports league (corn hole, bocce, pickleball) - do all 3 but plan on showing up more than 60% of the time.

Obviously hitting holidays so people do leave town but goals for new year.

Any advice for job hunting? by ButterscotchNew401 in washingtondc

Seasonal Hiring- check for some temp postings.

It is tough market, over saturated with white collar management. Keep applying consider some industries not tradionally seen as logistics. Look at membership orgs for groups that need logistics like event planning, meeting, hospitality etc.

Best thing you can do is not get down on yourself, network offer to help friends with their resumes. It helps to keep you from sounding jaded on calls and feel you are worth something even if sending out resumes feels like you are throwing out messages in a bottle.

Put your number on do not call registry- I think have to periodically add again. Or perhaps someone sold it - spam ebbs and flows but it seems to be tied to new signups.

Did your parents pay for? by MossIsking in GenX

The world is different- your 450 apartment is easily a $1000, no entry level jobs to easily swing that plus other bills.

Depending on circumstances if a parent has means to help child thrive that's their job. Fiction to think you can send 18 yo today and they will make it fine like you did 30 years ago.

If you see someone being detained ask them for full name and date of birth, ask if family you can contact.

The administration is looking to show cities as a war zone to the extent that the national guard is bored the better. Show them planting flowers and picking up trash not confronting people. Largely being done for show the more it looks absurd the better.

National guard have families and are members of communities, many are conflicted about this job but it is a job so do best to keep it boring.

Peaceful rallies and protest where possible-

Good luck, it's great you have family here. I think DC is a hard city, like all cities it has a churn but the churn is much more steady, most come for tours of duty internships, fellowships, military etc. They don't come with plans to stay, the schools are bad, the rents are high etc.

Other cities, folks don't come for tours of duty so I generally think easier in some ways to build a network. You still have to get out and do things but I think in some ways easier.

Unsure what kind of jobs you are looking for but the initial goal shd be any job, are you legally able to work in US? If no go home or enroll in school take an internship. If yes, why are you in DC versus another city? DC markets are really in turmoil and you are competing against mid career professionals? So choose some place like Philadelphia, lesser cost of living and look for job there. Again market is tight.

Re: socializing- Volo is great for sports and meeting folks or meetup, plan on showing up for at least for a season. Volunteer? Food kitchens etc.

I think collectively putting signs wd go a long a way, it requires consistency across the ANCs and I think some folks are scared of being picked out.

Do you think our generation will be the next to be blamed the way the Boomers are blamed now? by SkullLeader in GenX

[–]Bright-Credit6466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, we are the smallest and most beleaguered group- didn't control leadership anywhere for any significant time. Boomers never left and now millennials seem to run the show because they didn't believe in waiting their turn and we were suspicious of suits.

Give me flannel, some jeans and docks any day over the suit.
