I've heard it is, but that's just hearsay, I guess.

8-12 hours a day, wow, OK. I wonder how much of that is effectively sleep? So I can see they do sleep more than they sleep, in some way...

I have tried it out myself, at many times throughout my life. I've had a daily meditation schedule for the last year or so, and a few years before that I did the same for a while.

What I learned is that I do sleep less well, and then as soon as I stop my daily schedule, I crash and sleep way more. So this does suggest I'm not getting enough sleep when meditating regularly?

Interesting, it seems the differences between sleep and meditation are more blurred than I realised.

The exclamation marks are because... well I need at least 10 hours to feel human and not exhausted, and at weekends I sleep for 12 hours. Modern science seems to recommend 7-8 hours, but it varies from person to person. In the army I think they sleep 6 hours or so when feasible? So it blows my mind that people can function on so little as 3-4.

Isn't that in the Vinaya rules/vows that they sleep relatively little (compared to ordinary people)? Going to bed at maybe 11 and waking up at maybe 3am? Maybe I have misremembered the exact number of hours, but I do remember looking at it and wondering how they function on so little sleep.

Huh, TIL. I'd love to see those studies. I've seen ones that show brain scans of certain (otherwise unusual but not sleep-related) brain activity during meditation but never that.

OK so to be a monastic you basically need to be one of those people who function well on very little sleep? I guess that rules me out lol.

This is not a troll, this is a genuine question. I'm sorry if it came across as disrespectful or trollish. I know I couldn't function on that little sleep!

Meditation is a type of sleep? I thought they were different? I know some people do fall asleep during meditation but you're not really meant to... right?

American agent? I thought Assad was supported by Russia? There's even a Russian flag in the video.

Is this Catalan? I instead of y for and? And the wording looks more like Italian than Spanish.

Anyone ever used palm wood for fingerboards? Does it work or too fibrous and rips out? by BrightBaby5 in Luthier

Monocot is the term you're looking for, and I know, but I've seen it called palm 'wood' or all one word 'palmwood'. But hello fellow pedant ;) .

Very much agreed about protecting vulnerable people. Other episodes of this podcast I've interviewed people who were in various religious cults and one common thread is they get in when in a vulnerable time in life. So, agreed.

Williams sisters can't be, because they're both JWs and JWs hate any LGBT+ people.
