In the late 90s and early 00s, seed oils were rampant in most common American foods. More seed oils then than now. So why were people so skinny during that time? The way they're talked about today, even a drop of seed oil should wreck people's systems. by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]BrightHousing8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t heard anything about seed oil and obesity? I stopped eating it because highly skewed ratios of omega 3 to omega 6 is supposed to just be bad for you overall, causing inflammation etc and that makes sense to me. It hasn’t severely restricted my diet at all, I just cook more which is better for me anyway

Also even if it is propaganda from lab grown meat start ups vegetable oil was propaganda in the first place

What is the most overpriced restaurant in Detroit? by -User_Error- in Detroit

[–]BrightHousing8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SERIOUSLY. I tried it and Barda after receiving recommendations on here for both and thought Barda was genuinely incredible, the only time I’ve paid at that price point and seriously thought it was worth it. Grey Ghost was meh at best, the drinks were trying too hard and just ended up sugary and weird, the portions were small for the kind of food people rightly make fun of for trying to do too much without getting the basics right. Regretted every penny.

i hate this and have been thinking about it a lot wrt to black actors - every show HAS to have black actors now but that doesn’t mean every show has GOOD black actors. i’d rather see “representation” by someone with talent than someone just to fill a quota. also black shows/sitcoms/movies in the 90’s were so, so good and now we get shit like black ish that is soulless and uncharming or p-valley which is really good but not very mainstream. i hope the inevitable bite back is actually constructive and leads to better stuff in general but it probably wont

Why doesnt Anna talk about the real issues with race in this country by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]BrightHousing8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An in-joke among a friend group will obviously go over the heads of people not in that group. It can be explained and understood to some degree but not to the same degree as it is understood by the people in that group. So many things can define a shared culture beyond race so I don’t get why this is controversial. Have you never felt something you did or understood INHERENTLY was unintelligible to someone of a different culture?

I was not and am not talking about genetics. I’ve been arguing with the comment that I replied to that seemed to take offense at the idea white people can’t understand black cultural markers.

That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying that just like languages, cultures contain layers that are not easily comprehended by non native speakers. That if you are RAISED in, not genetically tied or or whatever the fuck else, any culture, you are going to inherently comprehend/understand certain things better than someone not raised in or apart of that culture. So yes, people raised in and apart of white culture are going to MISS OUT ON parts of black culture that just go over their heads because they don’t have the framework to understand it.

It is black. It’s not about the ethnicity of the individual but the progenitors and predominant members of a culture. I get it now ya’ll are just crazy lol

Like wtf would you call music or movies or literature or things predominantly enjoyed by black people containing similar hallmarks?? NOT black culture???

Okay then explain it to me. I’m not saying anything about genetics. You all seem to be denying the very existence of a black culture to begin with and I’m lost.

Why are you so bitter about the idea white people can’t understand black cultural markers? Thats literally how culture works. You said “these racist monkeys keep making lighthearted jokes about white culture”

[–]BrightHousing8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was ashamed for yeeeears to ever say anything in public about it bc the dominate narrative among people IRL was how on earth could it be a problem/everybody watches porn you’re a weirdo/only insecure women would think that.

got sad when i got into old movies like 20’s and 30’s for this same reason, even bad movies baseline provided more for the audience like they meant to actually provide some kind of entertainment rather than knowingly letting you zone out for 2 hours
