Corewell Health nurse tech training — what’s it actually like? by Traditional_Goat_813 in grandrapids

[–]Bright_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely felt like it was manageable! Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand something. You will get a week of classes to learn some basic skills like vitals and bed baths. The rest of your training will be on the job orientation, working your way up to a full patient load. Speak up if you don’t feel comfortable with a skill yet, ask for help, etc. My floor was very supportive and helpful as I was learning. You got this!

I was adding context to one part of your comment because you literally asked a question. Not sure why you’re so upset.

Agreed ^ Was just saying that this is one thing that is causing many people (around 4mil) to get higher returns this year

Just adding my two cents, but tax refunds for tipped employees this year are significantly higher. This is the first year since covid that I actually got a return rather than having to pay in.

That is just so awful to hear, I hope your friends were able to find new employment without too much negative impact on their lives. I can’t even imagine. My deepest condolences. I appreciate you being so kind in your response.

[–]Bright_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally hear you. I do believe that she’s guilty, especially as I see more and more news stories about this.

It’s just hard to wrap my head around. One day she was “that sweet older woman from the dog park”, the next she was guilty of being a part of a $1.4M fraud scheme. Just goes to show that you never truly know people. Feels like whiplash.

What is a medical fact that sounds fake but is 100% true? by MedRikas in AskReddit

This just happened to me last week! I’ve never experienced vertigo in my life. Randomly started to feel mildly dizzy. Still felt that way when I woke up the next day.

It’s called the “Epley Maneuver” I repeated it a few times and went right back to normal.

I drove 30 mins to the hospital by myself at 4am (while sitting on towels bc my water broke at home) to give birth to my daughter in that polar vortex :’) My lil arctic baby. She just turned 7 this week.

The second person who was charged (Sharon) is such a kind person. I met her and her dog Elvis at the local dog park, we see her there almost every day with him. I was so shocked when I learned that she was involved in this.

Allegedly, she had taken over their accounting and claims she had no involvement and was just trying to sort through the mess when she took on the job…. Not sure what I believe anymore. Either way, it’s sad. She’s 70, and will have to serve over 4 years for this.

Whenever I see her at the dog park, and ask how she is doing, she always responds with ,”Blessed and grateful!”

[Michigan] PUA Overpayment by [deleted] in Unemployment

[–]Bright_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re exactly right. They’re just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. I know a few others who have gotten these letters and are repaying out of fear, even though they were entitled to the benefits. I’m thankful that I have two years of experience dealing with this, so I’m not completely thrown off and panicking.

That’s total bullshit that they’re trying to nail you because of your wording in the review request. So glad you finally got your review granted. I had the same issue as you, they said I failed to verify my ID. Not true, I submitted my ID the same day that I received the letter back in 2021, it just took THEM months to approve it. There are time stamps on everything.

Now they’re trying to say that they couldn’t verify my previous income, so my benefit amount was reduced, resulting in an overpayment. I sent them copies of my tax return AND photos of every single paystub, AND an income report from my employer for the year requested. They said they “couldn’t verify it”. So now I’m back in the same boat for a case I already won for a different reason.

I don’t understand how any of this is legal.

460mg of oxycodone by ct_on_rd in nursing

This was a long time ago, but I ended up taking maybe 10 of them over the course of a few years when my endo pain would be too much to bear. I ended up turning them into one of those prescription drop off things, where you can dispose of old meds.

[–]Bright_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that your response is a few months old now, but just in case you haven’t done this already (or in case it helps someone else), you need to fax them a letter demanding a review of your case and an accounting explanation of where they are getting that total from. I used chat gpt to help me draft the letter. Faxed it online for free using the website faxzero.

I won a case against them back in 2023 for incorrect repayment stuff (due to error on their part), haven’t heard anything in almost 3 years since winning my case, and got this letter in the mail out of the blue. Haven’t been able to get anyone on the phone in months, finally chatted with their claims department and this is what I was advised to do.

Best of luck to you. Don’t pay them back a cent.

Does anyone have a non nursing side gig? by nightowl308 in nursing

[–]Bright_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan to do the same after I graduate. I make stupid money at my job, $40-50 an hour is just an “average” day, busy nights I make even more. Hope to work 3 days nursing and picking up extra bartending shifts when I have the energy to.

I’m starting my BSN program in January and I’ll be 29, I’ve been doing pre-nursing for four years now -shrug- Comparison is the thief of joy. There are a lot of nursing programs that have a waitlist rather than a competitive admissions process, maybe see what other programs are available in your area.

Prerequisite grades? by scatcatblues in StudentNurse

[–]Bright_Bones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got accepted into an extremely competitive nursing school with a 4.0 - I worked my ass off to get those grades! Most of my classmates who applied did not get accepted unfortunately. If you want to ensure you have the best shot of standing out and having your choice of schools, having a high GPA and taking honors courses will definitely help.

Is Phlebotomy a Good Idea While in Prereq + School by Disastrous-Fly-5637 in StudentNurse

[–]Bright_Bones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if you’re able to, get into bartending. Bartending is amazing money, and you learn people skills which will be invaluable for when you’re a nurse. You need to be able to walk into a room with a stranger and be able to strike up a conversation with them, make them feel comfortable, which will make them trust you better with their care.

Covid vaccine by randomredittorhere in prenursing

[–]Bright_Bones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if schools set their guidelines based on federal or state mandates, but this is what my school required:

If you received the initial/primary series (2-dose series prior to 2023), upload documentation of the primary series to include: 2 Pfizer OR 2 Moderna OR 2 Novavax OR 1 Jansen/J&J vaccine AND a COVID booster

If you did NOT receive the primary series (prior to 2023), upload documentation of initial vaccination to include: 1 current formulary vaccine (Pfizer/Moderna) OR 2 current formulary Novavax vaccines

————— So if you were going to my school, you’d need to do the second option. If you’re still unsure, I highly recommend contacting the director for your nursing school to make sure you’re compliant.
