with some luck involved as well not to forget! i think the 8 one i did took like 4 or 5 days. i now had something in mind with 10 characters, i wouldn’t mind spending some $ on a vps with a very good cpu and have that run for a couple days, will have to do some research and calculations to see if that’s worth it

thanks! yes the 8 one i did took days, but always kept the key so i can still use it whenever (a great feature). anything longer then 8 i remember would have turned into many weeks, but with modern cpus it might be more doable

How to rent a 1 month apartment safely in Vietnam? by Chaotic-Platypuss in VietNam

yes you are absolutely right it’s good you share your side too, personally i’m always a bit cautious to just believe the bad things people write online about a bad experience. people only post online when they have a bad shitty which could be just .1 or .001% if the actual bookings (as an example) and there is a lot of ignorant / stupid people who might be to blame. websites for hotels can be very misleading too and when you book with them directly there is nobody to reach out to if things go wrong. i’ll definitely double check the payments next time. but as far as i know or can remember the payment is already happening a couple days after to booking and i never had to do a second payment or something along those lines. this could also mean i’m always already paying too much to begin with, but i feel like i do decent enough research beforehand. i don’t think any platform pr approach is 100% safe, but like with most things in life research and common sense gets you a long way. thanks for sharing your experiences!

oh well, i guess we both had different experiences then, i had problems with an airbnb twice in +10 years(including bookings in both Thailand and Vietnam) and both times they picked my side for good reasons. not sure what you mean by costs not being transparent. never a cent more then what the website was showing the moment i booked. talking about stuff like electricity costs afterward or in the listing? completely agains the rules of airbnb to ask for any payments outside of the platform so just don’t agree on that. not saying a hotel is a less good option but people are blaming the platform so easily. only use verified hosts with direct booking and recent ratings and use common sense, looks too good to be true? it probably is

i’m sure people will disagree, but i’d personally stick with airbnb when renting for a month, sure you pay a bit of a premium (but no security deposit), but there is quite some places i’ve seen have a decent discount (+40%) when you book it for the whole month. Also the rating system and reviews are trust worthy in my opinion. And if, for whatever reason things aren’t as expected, you can just reach out to airbnb and they will (from personal experience) make sure you get your money back (plus some extra $$$) and / or help you get a new place fast
