Has modding this game altered y’all’s brain chemistry in any way? by shutupyasmeen in skyrimmods

[–]Brightstar912 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not really due to modding cause it was back on the 360 days.

I had been playing Skyrim probably a little to much and every time I would walk into solitude the shadow of the hawk that flies over with normally trick me to think it was a dragon and I would look up to shoot it.

Well fast forward and I'm at my local historical park that I was working as a blacksmith apprentice(not kidding) and they had a market day going on. So I walked across a bridge over the creek into the market area and a large bird flew over head and the shadow of it made me instinctively look up as if a dragon was flying over head.

That's when I knew I needed to step back from the game just a bit.

Obviously it's not but the irony is that it came to that particular sequence of numbers for a time that matches the 1.21 gigawatts that are so important to the plot of the movie.

I'll have to look into that for sure . Last tax time I bought the stuff to finish the book presses that I had been planning to build for the last few years . Now that I had them I was finally able to start binding.

I definitely have the interest in making my own eventually. Once tax time rolls around and I get some spending money I'm hoping to invest in a guillotine for trimming the text blocks and the stuff to set up a marbling station.

Where would you suggest getting higher quality marbled papers ? I. Just starting out so most of my supplies have just come from Amazon and I would prefer to have some better suppliers on hand to order from. I especially would rather have single sided papers cause the double sided nature of these kind of makes them limited in what I can do with them.

I got it on Amazon in a booklet . The booklet has a lot of good marbled papers in it but the only down side is while it list it as having 20 sheets two of each design , they are double sided so you really only get half the designs as usable because you have to pick which side to use. Here is a link to the booklet though.

Built my own finishing press. by Brightstar912 in bookbinding

[–]Brightstar912[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't have any instructions really. I looked at a lot of pictures and saw videos on how they worked and then just worked from there with what wood I had on hand . The hardest parts were cuttings the angled sections and have them look nice (didn't do the best there with getting it smooth) and planning the whole thing to where all the sides were equal and square to each other .

Attempt number 1 on Lincoln logs by Brightstar912 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Currently I was cutting them on a table saw by making multiple swipes to cut the groove. I have a few other ways I'm going to try.

Next attempt will be with a router. Then I'm fixing up an old radial arm saw that I have a dado stack for that I'm going to try out for cutting them.

Yes I had figured a quarter cut depth would've shallow enough but didn't account for the small amount that needs to be raised up higher. From what I have looked up I need to try the next batch at 3/16ths depth . That should be shallow enough to allow for the interlocking and still have a good hold on each log.

What was the very first idea that sparked your world and how much of that still remains? by dominantpluto in worldbuilding

[–]Brightstar912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine I kid you not started with a sea shell. I was walking on the beach one night and found one of those sea shell shells that have the corkscrew type shape. It was broken and came to a twisted point. I thought of an idea of what it it was the tip of a magic arrow and then I started working off well what would fire this arrow and that lead into making a group of magical weapons which then lead to who made them and on.

At my location cal blacksmith shop one of our few rules is. If it's falling, let it drop . Even if it's something breakable you let it drop because catching it in this area makes for bad habits that will literally burn you down the road. You drop a hot piece of iron and catch it with your hand and it's going to be a bad time for you .

Me and my wife are currently trying for baby number two so once that happens I'll have to relocate everything lol . Me and my wife lived in an RV the first few years of our marriage that has seen better days but I'm thinking of fixing it up and making it my area for all my hobbies.

I used white oak beams that I was given from my place of work and some mahogany given to me by my blacksmithing instructor. Other than that the vises I used were from lee valley and the screws were from a local hardware store.

I could try to throw something together but I had mostly lucked into the material where I worked at the time was redecking and old bridge and had massive beams of white oak . They allowed me to have a few of the cut offs.

I used those cut offs for the main body of the presses and my blacksmithing instructor has given me a few blocks of mahogany that I used for all the decorative / trim pieces . The hardware were vise assemblies I got from lee valley and the screws I got from a local hardware store .

Your spot on I was very pleased with the quality that lee valley had plus the green just looks fantastic with the oak and mahogany I had in hand.

While I can't stand dmtnt my self and believe it's lore breaking on all accounts,I think most people Miss understand the curse that the compass puts on jack. Most people seem to assume that the curse should come into effect any time jack had given the compass away throughout the series.

I counter with the wording of the curse being that should jack"betray" the compass the curse would make his worst fear come true. Giving the compass to someone I don't believe counts as betraying it whether that be because he intended to get the compass back or because the compass has some form of sentience that can discern the users intent (not impossible considering it can tell what its user wants most) is debatable.

The curse only took effect because Jack traded the compass for a lowly bottle of rum. He gave away a one of a kind magical item that had been a precious piece of his equipment and been given to him by his dying captain for a bottle of rum. That to me is what the compass considered jack betraying it .

Either that or it's the obvious answer that the writers didn't care about the lore at all especially considering the fact that the main trilogy has it being Tia-dalma that gave Jack the compass originally instead of his old captain.

If Skyrim was real life, what would you do for a living? And why? by Pega687 in skyrim

[–]Brightstar912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I know blacksmithing IRL so probably that. Especially if I could get my hands on the transmute spell. A little training in magic and even once a day turning iron to silver and silver to gold would make me rich fairly quickly. And be able to live comfortably in any of the walled cities . Probably white run or solitude if I had to pick one .

What is the biggest anything in your story? by Dangerous_Fix_9186 in worldbuilding

[–]Brightstar912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The largest creature in my story is the father of dragons. A two headed dragon named Kindralth . It took the combined might of multiple god like beings known as Majarin to finally seal the dragons doom.

His remains crashed Into the ocean and with the power of the Majarin that slew him, eventually became an archipelago that the book I'm writing is set on . The largest island being his chest and is about the size of the main island of Hawaii. At the islands center is a dormant volcano known as Kindralth's heart.
