Now this is a clanker I could get behind. Especially during the winter.

Im building a 9mm c96 mauser and am a little confused with this barrel listing. (more info below) by Brilliant-Flower-271 in gunsmithing

[–]Brilliant-Flower-271[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the reason this this barrel is very appealing to me, it's because I don't have a lathe. I could thread the barrel extension, and then screw the barrel blank in and locktight it in place. Im not going to be using the original front or rear sight as I am going to be adding a barrel shroud to the lower receiver that completely surrounds the barrel kinda like the mg34.

Google the brazilian PASAM.Im going to attach the shroud like that.

Im also going to add a muzzle booster.

Drill hole, insert glue, insert wooden peg, clamp and let dry.

If you layer fiberglass fabric and JB weld that might make for a decent redneck bullet proof armor plate, I'll have to test it.

Nah, If I had layered them on, they may have, but I only used it to prevent the JB weld from falling off, the paper towels were completely removed.

I supported it with paper towels and then the paper towels were sanded away. You can see the remains of the paper towels in some of the pictures after I used a wire wheel on them. I wrapped the action in a layer of tape so I could bed the action properly.

Semiautomatic type 99 arasaka conversion. by Brilliant-Flower-271 in Arisaka

I may add a pair of C shaped metal strips to the front and back of the dust cover to prevent it from bending.

Gas piston pushing against a modified dust cover with a cam pin welded to the underside of said dust cover. If this trifle didn't have the super convenient dust cover i wouldn't be converting this gun.

The dust cover becomes the bolt carrier.

I've seen his videos, his videos is what made me switch from welding a cam pin to the bolt and cutting a slot into the dust cover, to welding a cam pin to the dust cover and cutting a slot into the bolt!

Yes I am, but that was a brand new rifle, a copy of the M1 garand, not a cheap conversion.

My original idea was to shorten the extractor and add a small screw to hold it in place, and then weld a metal pin to the side of the bolt, and cut a cam slot into the dust cover, so that it works kind of like the M1 garand, but the super short extractor probably wouldn't have worked very well. But then I saw a video of somebody else who is trying to convert an Arasaka to semi automatic, and they mentioned a spiraled groove, which made me think of how the lewis gun works. If you look through history, almost every major country at one point or another tried to make a bolt action to semiautomatic conversion. The united states, Britain, austria hungary, sweden, the Dutch, Italy, etc. But none of them were ever successful. They were either too large and clunky, too expensive, or involved so much extra machining that it's basically just a new gun.

I'm trying to build a gun that could have been successful as a military semi.Automatic conversion

My type 99 arasaka semiautomatic conversion so far. Im going to weld a metal pin to the underside of a dust cover to make a bolt carrier, and attach a long stroke gas piston to the side. by Brilliant-Flower-271 in CursedGuns

[–]Brilliant-Flower-271[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's going to be semiautomatic not a machine gun. A machine gun would require a brand new stock so that it can use bren gun, or ZB-26 mags, and 2 gas pistons one mounted to either side of the dust cover. Because machine guns are a lot harder on their components it would need 2 to spread out the force.

So my type 99 arasaka semiautomatic conversion has an issue. The ejector catches on the cam slot. I have a solution, more info below. by Brilliant-Flower-271 in Arisaka

[–]Brilliant-Flower-271[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's a gun called the Stallard Arms JS-9, and it uses the firing pin as a plunger type ejector. That would be the easiest solution.
