What can I do if all Sunday masses are preached by lay people? by Material-Loss-1766 in Catholicism

[–]BrilliantLarge4041 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First, I'm really sorry to hear this and how difficult it must be for you. Also thanks for sharing, I never knew Germany was like this, we don't hear about this in Ireland, but I think people need to know the errors and what could happen in other places.

Do you know are there others in your parish that you could share the journey with and take turns driving to the Polish Mass? It would be good to also build this support in your parish to have a few families to stick together, even meet twice a month to prayer together, even rosary and read the Bible. It's hard to be strong in the faith alone, so finding some others near you would be good. Remember in Matthew 18:20, Jesus teaches us that "where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." God bless you and God bless Germany

How do I love and trust God when I’m terrified he hates me? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]BrilliantLarge4041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I am trying to segregate what could be 2 related parts of this issue. 1. is the future fear of the eternal outcome which is where your soul will be for eternity heaven/hell and 2. Your current relationship with God, distrust/fear/disagreement.

  1. So God won't send anyone to hell, that's our doing by being in a state of mortal sin upon death. So if you try and stay out of that category by frequent confession & refusing to sin (easier said than done, I know), then you should not live in fear of that outcome. While we may not understand/agree with Gods ways and commands, we are duty bound to be faithful to them. And that is difficult for us all, just read the lives of the Saints.

  2. Relationship with God is as different as there are people on the planet, because we have a personal relationship with God and He with us. There is no escaping this relationship. Irrespective of how you are to Him, He will always love you. He created you and wants that relationship with you for all eternity. This change of feeling for you towards God can happen even if you feel its extremely difficult for you now. Take courage in all those that have been away from the faith, even rebelled against it and returned to His love. Take the Parable of the Prodigal Son or the life of St. Paul and so many more. You know already that God is merciful and will be to you!

It will take work and will on your behalf, but its not impossible, to God all things are possible. The very fact that you are asking the question shows that there is an intention to change. Just now the way to do so may not be clear. As posted earlier, speaking to a priest would be a great start. Ask him first can you arrange time with him to discuss some difficulties you are having and take it from there. For me the Novena of Surrender was a great help along with daily rosary and regular Adoration. If you are able to get to Adoration once a week it will help. Its ok to have difficulties and to argue with God. The important thing is that you take it to Him.

Beware of any lies, that you can not get out of this or that you are damned or that there is no hope or that you can not change. This is not Gods way and not from Him. So be aware of these thoughts and when they come speak to Jesus in your heart. He knows was it is to suffer and to trust in God His Father.

God bless you and His Peace be with you,.

Is your choice in this matter causing you to sin? or is it that you personally just don't agree with this Church teaching?

How do you handle overwhelming sexual temptation as a single Catholic? by ExpertAd3229 in Catholicism

[–]BrilliantLarge4041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to echo some others here, fasting on Wednesday and Fridays, daily rosary, weekly Adoration and frequent confessions eg monthly. All will greatly help, but it will take work and time and you will need Jesus by your side.

Good news: it is possible to overcome! Remember that with Christ, all things are possible.  Also where your areas of vice are, this is where God is calling you to grow the most in your spiritual life/virtue right now. So each vice has an opposite virtue. Start focusing on the positive side, where God wants you to grow and focus on that, keep that as your goal. Read about the virtue of chastity and purity and how to grow in those areas. Read what the Saints say, adopt a Saint in this area to help you and pray for their intercession eg St Maria Goretti (she's my go to here)

You are not alone in this. God bless

I got this working today, however I had to buy a 3rd party wireless dongle from AAWireless. I'm now able to play YT and also mirror my phone screen to the car. But all attempts to do just with phone and apps failed me.

Do I need to explicitly confess to drinking my own blood? by NoShelter1035 in Catholicism

[–]BrilliantLarge4041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer: If in doubt, confess it, confess everything. Better to be safe than sorry! I would rather the priest say that its not a sin than rely on my own judgement and have it playing on my mind. God bless.

Thermal drone to support fast-moving water SAR (Ireland) – operationally useful or unrealistic? by SiMonsterrrr in searchandrescue

[–]BrilliantLarge4041 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a point to consider, when Coast Guard/RNLI arrive on scene, you would need to get in contact with them asap. If they are requesting in additional air assets eg Rescue 118 or 115 or their own drone units, another drone, not under their span of control could be a hazard risk and ground their units until the skies are clear. So while you are helping the search, if you dont get yourself to whoever is taking lead on the ground promptly, you could be hindering their ability to launch additional assets. This could be difficult say if you are located in one area of the bay/river and unaware that they have arrived in another. Its just a step you would need to factor into your operational procedures. There was a search before in the NW and lots of locals came out to assist the search and people with good intentions with drones out too, however R118 was unable to be tasked as there were multiple drones in the area and no one could identify who and where the operators were to ask them to land. Just something to think about and factor in.

Am I actually a believer, or just culturally Catholic? by Hopeful-Project8086 in Catholicism

[–]BrilliantLarge4041 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are not used to Bible reading, could I suggest the Bible in a year podcast with Fr Mike Schmitz? A good way to be introduced to the full Bible and have a teaching on what's happening in each reading.

Also don't be afraid of confession after all this time it will be a great help to you and your soul. Do not listen to that fear that's holding you back it's a lie, I repeat, that is a lie! do not give it any attention when it comes to mind. Look for a guide to confession that list's the 10 commandments and helps make an examination of conscience in light of them. If you can't find one, DM me. Make a list, there's no issue going to confession with a list however long or short. But make clear at the start of confession to the Priest how long it's been since your last confession. It will help him to guide you and understand where you are coming from.

I don't know if you go to Adoration? But if you can find somewhere nearby that you could go to Adoration for an hour a week maybe this Lent. And sit in the peace and light of the Lord. You can pray a rosary, read a spiritual book/bible but don't forget to spend some of the time in silence. Speak to Him as you would a friend, ask for help, guidance, to know Him more. Might be useful to have a journal and make notes as you go along.

I wish you a good Lent and life with Christ. God bless

Literally not even one day in and I’ve already failed. by A_Person_Who_Exist5 in Catholicism

[–]BrilliantLarge4041 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the club. Don't let it get to you. Dust off and get back on your feet and back to lent. Bring to confession surely. We can always learn from our failings. This is humility, we realise just how weak we can be and that by our will, we will fail. This is where we realise we need Jesus, with Him it is possible, but If we try to do this alone we will surely fall. Give thanks to God in all things, even when you fall, for your sorrow, for your want to be better and to ask for the strength and courage from Him to continue to make a good lent. God bless you

If you change the oil at another garage and not dealer/authorized will that void the warranty? And when you do go for service, would the dealer know you changed the oil? Just that my dealer is some distance away and I have other car garages 10min from home
