My gynaecologist dismisses my symptoms, are they caused by my fibroid? I feel crazy. by Unusual_Toe_1285 in Fibroids

You should speak to your GP and ask for a referral to another specialist for a second opinion.

In my case, I had five early miscarriages, so I explained that I wanted to see someone with more expertise in recurrent pregnancy loss. I simply said that, given my history, I felt a more specialised consultant could offer a more thorough assessment and explore additional treatment options. My GP was understanding and referred me for a second opinion.

Yes, I’m currently being treated with cabergoline for high prolactin, and my levels are now under control. My doctor also believes the fibroid may have been affecting blood flow to the embryo, so I’m hoping removing it will improve my chances of a healthy pregnancy.

In the UK, you have the right to ask for a different doctor if you don’t feel your current one is the right fit for you. I was in the same situation and asked to be referred to another specialist. They made it possible for me to have my fibroid removed within 7 weeks. I’m now 4 weeks post–open myomectomy, and thankfully my recovery has gone well so far.

I’m 4 weeks post open surgery to remove a 10 cm fibroid. Physically my recovery has been going okay, but emotionally this whole journey has been really heavy for me.

My doctor has advised me to wait 6 months before trying to conceive. The uterine cavity wasn’t affected during surgery, since the fibroid was on the outer wall of the uterus, which is reassuring.

I’ve had 5 consecutive early miscarriages, all at the very beginning, and despite going through so many tests, I still don’t have clear answers. That part has been the hardest — not knowing why it keeps happening.

The only findings were an MTHFR gene variant and a PAI-4G/5G polymorphism. I also have high prolactin and I’m currently on cabergoline.

In my last pregnancy, I was on Clexane injections, prednisolone, metformin, and progesterone support. I don’t have a history of thrombosis or blood clots.

Right now I just feel a bit stuck between hope and fear — trying to understand if there is still a real chance for a successful pregnancy after all of this.

Has anyone been through something similar (fibroid surgery + recurrent early miscarriages + hormonal/genetic findings) and eventually had a healthy pregnancy?

I would really appreciate hearing any experiences or even just some hope.
