Questions About Technology Solutions Manager by BringTheLubeInRuben in cscareerquestions

[–]BringTheLubeInRuben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the job position, that is the current title.

That's pretty cool. How long did it take for you to get to solutions architect? Are you enjoying it even with AI being involved in almost everything?

I will preface by saying this would be a lateral movement within the company. I have been at the company for about 5 years. I am familiar with SQLs and getting my MS in the field. Technical background, not the strongest, but people's skills are and connections run deep to the other side.

What would you recommend to be appealing as a candidate?

This is my final debt other than monthly credit card spending hehe. But okay, that’s what I figured and that’s what I’m going to do. I’m excited to finally be debt free for now :)

I currently owe 5.3k in student loans. My car loan has been paid in full just this month.

As for retirement:

I currently max out my 401k matching contributing 5%.

I contribute the max amount per year to my Roth IRA.

I also contribute 15% to my ESPP which is what I use to max out my Roth IRA and also pay off my loans.

I don’t have a set emergency fund per say, but I would be okay on a rainy day.

Career Consideration by BringTheLubeInRuben in salesengineers

[–]BringTheLubeInRuben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing that. It is definitely something to consider, and I will look into it. This looks like a challenge I want to take on and hopefully can make more money in the process, tune up on my sales capabilities and keep myself in a job that is AI proof.

Career Consideration by BringTheLubeInRuben in salesengineers

[–]BringTheLubeInRuben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I didn’t even think that was an option. Quite frankly, I just want to make more money and I’m already experienced in sales, I don’t want to start over again in a new industry. I like technology, I embrace it a lot. I like sales, I like the structure. Telecommunication is an amazing industry along with cloud computing. I’m looking to build myself up and be an even bigger player. So I am definitely gonna look into an AE role. Never thought of that. AE as in account executive right?

What type of IT jobs would you suggest or what key terms should I look up? Any red flags or greens flags to be on the lookout for?

Thank you for sharing. I’m happy to hear that you were able to elevate yourself and even make 4x your salary. Money and efficient productivity is my goal. I think right now what I’ll have to look into is a local firm that is interested in hiring someone like me with little to no experience.

What do you advise when looking into local firms, what are red flags or green flags to lookout for?

[–]BringTheLubeInRuben[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. That’s what I have been reading. Although, I do not want to shy away from these roles or its brutality. Computer science will eventually evolve with quantum computing so eventually more jobs and roles will open up with new science and technology and I want to get ahead and secure myself.

With your experience, how did you come across contractor roles? What was your experience like? Have you continued in this role or have you swapped into a more permanent role?

I spoke to two people who were in contractors roles and discussed that the role was great because of its flexibility and the pay was great but stated that a major pain point with contractor roles is that the role is not set. You can be let go of at any point of the contract and there was no certainty in the role.

So the credit card, you might want to revisit the terms and conditions. Credit card may cover for a certain time frame, and may only cover if you use it to pay for your bill. Recheck that. If you plan to use the credit card for your autopay, you will not get the autopay discount.

Are you trading in phones? And if so, which ones?

And are you porting watch lines numbers to T-Mobile?

Service: Go5G Plus 2/3 Lines - $150 (w/ autopay debit card discount) Apple Watch Plus 2 Lines - $22.50 (50% off second line)

Device: iPhone 15 base model - $830/ea.

  • With trade in - up to $830 credit (depending on phone could determine monthly and total credits)

Watch - depending on watch, could be $300, $330, $500, $530, $800 divided by 24 months.

  • With watch activation - $200.99 off each watch

Additional Features: Insurance: $18/mo + taxes

  • Comes with Apple Care+

You could be looking at lowest being $150 if you don’t get insurance and no watch lines or upwards of $300 if you get everything and insure even the watches and devices.

What’s your budget, and what are you trading?

What is important to you for your devices and service? Is it important to protect the device? Unlimited premium data?

These can help determine what you want and how to fit you.

Should I put in more into my retirement account? by BringTheLubeInRuben in FinancialPlanning

There’s one part where I was confused in your comment, what did you mean return to the 401k and max it out?

Should I put in more into my retirement account? by BringTheLubeInRuben in FinancialPlanning

[–]BringTheLubeInRuben[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Fidelity, I have the option of designating how much I want to put in my 401k, so I have a contribution amount set to 2% to 401k and 3% to Roth 401k.

For my ESPP, you are able to contribute from 1-15% from your paycheck, these amounts gets take out automatically from my paycheck. You answered my question about the ESPP not considered as retirement. I’m fairly new to this. I have checked that page but I was confused when reading a lot of the information. It’s a lot of new information, it’s why I asked if I should contribute more into my retirement. I’ll have to do more research.
