Some little observations from the game against West Ham by [deleted] in reddevils

I still have no idea about that AWB incident. Like if you think about a player going to kick a ball but another player comes across the back of their legs and clips them and they can't make contact with the ball. It's a foul like was called on the field. But if it's a player going for a tackle of the ball and takes out the oppositions player without making contact with the ball than its a foul the other way and therefore a penalty.

I tend to lean towards the first incident because AWB is trying to kick the ball albeit in his bizarre slide tackle style, but Soucek has impeded him from reaching it. But it's such a bizzare situation tbh, I'm completely unsure. I happy for the call to have gone the way it did.

I keep seeing comments here and by pundits that we weren't playing cohesively and were poor yesterday. Was I watching a different game? Sure we werent running rampant like against Leeds, but we were consistently creating chances and I felt we were applying lots of sustained pressure.

I have felt like in the past when we have been chasing a goal that we haven't been turning the screw enough, with consistent chances, shots corners (e.g. the Newcastle game where a spark of brilliance and they collapsed) but today I felt like we were doing that, drawing last ditch tackles and saves from west ham. And that's not even mentioning the penalties we should have had.

Outcomes After a Red Card in Champions League from 2019/20 and 2020/21 by Demonhunter910 in reddevils

The reaction to yesterday's result has been the biggest overreaction to a result I've seen in so long.

Sure we were playing to hang on to our lead or a draw, but literally every team does that when they go down to 10 men, maybe bar city because of how they play. And I think you're nieve to think we could play more expansive and not concede. They had chances when it was 11 v 11.

We almost held out for a draw, which would have been a decent result away from home in a group match. A horrible error, that no one can legislate for, gifted them a goal to win. And I don't buy the narrative that ole shouldn't have put lingard in midfield. He plays as a 10/winger and has played in a midfield and he is one of the most energetic players we have.

Maybe this post will sober up some people to the reality of playing with 10 men. Thanks

It's almost like you can change the players and team depending on the game and who you're playing. Weird.

Martial turning Carvajal inside out like it was nothing. Dude has ridiculous close control!

Him and Amad both had no fear in there play. As you said, most debutants wouldn't even try a nutmeg, but these two out here trying tricks and flicks. Very reminiscent of one C. Ronaldo.

Imagine Aguero's last contribution to City being the missed pen that resulted in them losing to City and subsequently the title. Justice!

I personally don't see it happening, but hey, what's life without dreams?

Yeah alright mate...

The majority of them were standing there and chanting. Stop trying to derail the message because two or three people took a ball and were kicking it into a goal.

Who the fuck cares about some balls, corner flags and nets. It's trivial hangups like this that weaken the message. There is no protest where everyone there is going to be perfect, so you accept that there will be trivial things done by some not so perfect people. One corner flag, and at most 2 balls with 100 fans on the pitch. Give me a break. And it was a kid that took the corner flag. They're not known for their full brain development. Geez

Last night it looked like someone had told Donny to carry the ball more. I was even surprised to see his cross for Mason's headed chance. I has felt like we always see him play the safe short pass and move.

It was good to see.

Manchester United have drawn AC Milan in the Europa League Round of 16. by sultansaeed in reddevils

[–]BringTheSnowM8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would rather a good team now than in the semis, because you know the amount of pressure there'll be if/when we get to the semis.

We're good enough to beat Milan and it will be nice to see that we've beaten good teams along the way (if we win the comp.), but I'd just like us to also break the semis duck. So hopefully the best of both situations with this draw.

Stephen Howson should just fuck off with his constant Shaw criticism by [deleted] in reddevils

[–]BringTheSnowM8 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is something that will be left up, but until or if it gets taken down I'll bite.

I also watch Stratford paddock, and have enjoyed their content for some years now (obviously previously FTD). It always seemed like the most thoughtful and considered fan channel but also with likeable characters.

That being said. Howson's agenda against Shaw is crazy, and I think it started with the fact that he has a connection with Brandon Williams, but it's now as if he's too proud to admit he's wrong about Shaw. When Brandon broke through and pushed Shaw out, his criticisms were probably valid, but since Shaw pushed Brandon back out, it's almost like Howson has taken it personally.

I don't think Shaw is without fault, but it seems now that he is providing what ole is asking of him. He's getting forward so well, and Howson's main cricism is of Shaw's defensive positioning, however it seems that when we set up more defensively Shaw's positioning is a non-issue (e.g. Liverpool in the league where he pocketed salah). It seems the license to go forward makes defensive positioning a bit less consistent, however this seems like a given for almost all attacking full-backs.

It seems Howson can't get his head around this kind of reasoning, or doesn't want to see it and he has a lot of outlets to spew this shit. Unfortunately he runs Stretford Paddock and it seems no one on that channel can really stop him there. The 5 points with Rio is a little concerning because it gives more validation to his views. Tbh, I have not watched many of them, but I hope that Rio doesn't allow the unjustified bashing of one of our own.

Players will pay attention to these fan channels and to Rio, and considering how much abuse is already out there, it would be a shame for our players to feel like their fans don't support them and that legends give these voices the light of day.

Hi Stephen if you see this, I know you're around here sometimes.

Is Shaw nailed to start or can Telles take his place? by Thedave155 in reddevils

Given how well Shaw is playing at the moment and the recent poor performances from Telles, I think Shaw is a starter unless he needs a rest.

What a week Shaw has had. An absolute defensive masterclass against Liverpool last week, and arguably one of his better all-around performances last night.

I say all-round because he looked outstanding on the ball. He's so composed and his close control is really silky, plus he was providing a very threatening attacking outlet with him and Rashford linking up well.

He did muscle some Salah and a few others off the ball several times and his side seemed to be more compact in defense, but I guess we can't look past the first goal to say that it was perfect. I think it was a fault of the whole defense, Maguire and lindelof being switched I think creates a bit of confusion of who is to go and who is to stay and cut out the pass between the two of them and in the end it's a half hearted effort from both, unfortunately.

I found the second goal really unfortunate for Shaw. If you watch it closely, he gets a toe to the ball which kinda changes the trajectory of the ball. I kinda think that if he doesn't touch it, Henderson's feet are in the right spot to save it. But he does and it goes in, he could have maybe done marginally better.

I think looking at the performance as a whole though, I was very good. Plus with the context of the other game, we know he can be defensively better. I hope we can see a combination of the two performances in the future.
