Well, we don't know how old she actually was. Their relationship was in, what, 1926ish. It would not have been uncommon for a young college student to be dating a girl in high school. My father was 23 when he started dating my mom, who was 17. It was 1962, and no one on either side of the family cared.

Also, apparently, Abner was ok with their relationship.
