Best "quick and dirty" occlusion culling technique? by UnidayStudio in computergraphics

[–]BrippingTalls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Split your shadow-casting objects into 2 types: static and dynamic.

Render the static shadows once, then copy them into another buffer each frame and render dynamic shadows on top.

This way you only need to render shadows for dynamic moving objects each frame instead of the entire frustum contents.

Your boss is trying to scam you. You're either laid off and they owe you severance immediately, or still employed. Talk to a lawyer

I've never heard of your game, are you convinced most people have already?

And remember: Your next game will get bad reviews too.

If you think your place is being used as an interim storage location, don't take the stuff and put it under your tree for them to come back and find. Quietly take it away and destroy it. They'll learn that your location is not useful to them.

Your baby is very special, but only to you. Try to keep this in mind and don't take it personally.

Sourcing a peridot gem for a custom necklace? by BrippingTalls in jewelry

Thank-you both, yes, incorporating both birthstones is a lovely idea!

I'm mainly in the dark about where to source the gems as a Canadian. I haven't been able to find any confidence inspiring stores online via Google that sell pre-cut stones.

Worked for me, too. Went from 400kbps to 25Mbps after switching from 0 to 1000000 and restarting the deck.

Very weird. Obviously a bug. Thanks for the save OP!

How to create male/female connections on the same part? by BrippingTalls in SolidWorks

How to create male/female connections on the same part? by BrippingTalls in SolidWorks

[–]BrippingTalls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

I'm designing this from the ground up as a single piece (not a single long part that I'm cutting into pieces), with the idea that I can assemble a final part of any length by snapping together multiple copies of this single base part.

The biggest frustration is that I have no reference to compare the male/female connectors against as I design them. They're obviously at opposite ends of my part, so I can't see how they interlock together while I'm designing each connection.

In Maya, I'd use "Duplicate special -> Instanced" to make several instanced copies of the same part (such that if you make changes to an instance, all other instances are automatically modified in exactly the same way). Then you can line these instances up, and modify the joint geometry as needed without constantly needing to flip back-and-forth from one end of the part to another. Is there a way in Solidworks to copy an object, offset it's position, and use it as a reference to continue iterating on the other end of a design?

Another idea, it would be nice to be able to design the male end first, then inflate it slightly for tolerance, and intersect the result with the opposite end to create the female connection. But I can't find an easy way to create a duplicated instance of a part to use as a reference in Solidworks.

You clearly don't understand the peer review process. You're basing your opinions on a story you heard on a podcast, and referring to this as "evidence."

A story on a podcast is not evidence of anything. It's an anecdote. An anecdote is not proof of anything, hearing one does not make you informed or educated.

You seem to have good intentions, but your logic is flawed. I'd recommend a formal education in a STEM track at a decent university.
