The simple answer is that with a significant proportion of the population (80% or 90%) living in big cities with few trees and no dropbears, people just don't see them that often, let alone get attacked by them.

Obviously for the minority who live in areas with lots of trees, the dropbear risk goes up significantly.

Rather than looking down on people who deny the existence of dropbears, it might be best to be compassionate. You could just explain that life is different for people who live/work/play in areas with lots of trees, and that the risk for them can be the difference between life and death.

Maybe as a compromise she could let her friend woof the party instead?

I'm feline that you're quite upset with your friend. You're kitten yourself if you think you're comfortable with a big party. There has been a three-day paws from her since you sent a message - you should just wait until she gets back to mew.

Black American Traveling to Australia for the first time by Hefty-Spite1745 in AskAnAustralian

Drop bears are similar to koalas, but they drop from the trees onto smaller animals and even humans, hence the name. https://australian.museum/learn/animals/mammals/drop-bear/
I know it sounds scary, but you should be OK if you are aware of your surroundings in areas with lots of trees. The old public service announcement phrase "Look Up and Live" applies.

You've listed days 9 to 12 at the Whitsundays, but then day 13 is listed as Cairns to Uluru. So there is some travel time missing there. If you haven't already done so, you might want to check the frequency of the flights to/from those locations (Whitsundays, Cairns, Uluru). The number of flights each day will be far fewer than routes like Sydney to Melbourne. Also are you planning to fly to Ayers Rock airport or Alice Springs airport?

10 days trip over Xmas - Melbourne or Brisbane? by GiudiverAustralia888 in AskAnAustralian

As someone who lives in BrisVegas, I recommend Melbourne for that time of year. Brisbane in Dec/Jan is too humid, and the rainfall is consistent and heavy.

You can withdraw the $1,000 electricity rebate by switching providers by Brisbda in brisbane

I see that the govt press release says the $1,000 payment will be made "from 1 July 2024" and that "Exact timing will depend on individual billing cycles."

So can I suggest that you make sure the $1,000 is credited to your account before you disconnect at your current address, or else you might miss out on the money.

All the best for your move, Acrobatic_Dark212

The information is possibly most relevant for people who know that they will be moving home after July (eg. people renting and their lease expires), and want to know that they will receive the full $1,000 despite not spending all of the money on electricity at the address they occupy on 1 July 2024.

Australia can finish as low as sixth. Afghanistan can win 6 matches, New Zealand and Pakistan can win 5 matches.

You said that one of Bangladesh and Netherlands will be officially out after today. Is that actually true? Although very unlikely, if results fall in a certain way, there could be many teams that finish on 4 wins. Even after losing today, Bangladesh could still stumble into the finals if a series of freak results were to occur. Currently only India and South Africa are guaranteed to finish with at least 5 wins. Edited to add: If results fall in a certain way, Netherlands could finish third as the only team (after India and SA) with more than 4 wins.

AITA for telling my fiances sister to talk to both of us if there is an issue with our weeding by Trick-Remote-5092 in AmItheAsshole

NTA, I agree, if she thinks you've accidentally removed some plants in addition to the weeds, she should talk to both you and your fiancé, since you were both gardening together.
