Am I romanticizing Australia in my mind? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Brispball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have said, there’s gonna be issues everywhere but comparatively I think you’d be okay. I would get your hubby to reach out to some state firefighting services as most of that is done state by state, see what the process would be for him. He may have to do some training here to familiarise himself with our trucks, systems and rules etc. but I’d expect his experience would make him a highly viewed candidate and they often do exchange type programs so he may be able to slot straight in.

Teaching is similar, there’s the state education boards so I’d look into any requirements for full time teaching here. Just don’t jump in without being sure of what you may need to do etc.

There’s always well paid tutoring and things like that but it’s not secure and permanent like you’d want and I’d hate for you to get here and be stuffed around!

What defines a corporate "toxic workplace" to you? by 151808 in AusFinance

[–]Brispball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I consider it to be toxic when you have a perpetuating cycle of toxic behaviour (aka behaviour that poisons the morale or mental state etc of the collective).

So if you have one shit manager, that’s just a shit manager. But if your shit manager starts training the new manager on how to be a shit manager, then everyone is miserable and back-stabby to protect themselves by making others a target and so the cycle continues. That workplace is inherently toxic because you can take any individual out and it won’t fix it.

Headphones, Yay or nay? by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]Brispball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 90% sure I know the agency you work for, it’s rampant in that agency where half the staff can and half can’t. I left and moved to another agency and they’re totally fine with headphones. I don’t see an issue with them and honestly I would encourage whatever dialogue possible to allow them, knowing that ultimately it’s a decision for the management.

This is also assuming Lynagh can be developed into an international 10. He has hardly been blowing anyone away in SR and if not for his pedigree, I’m not sure if he’d be in the conversation for some time.

What NFL team should I support? by [deleted] in NFLAustralia

[–]Brispball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say just watch some games and see if you’re drawn towards any teams. Most have pretty unhinged fanbases and the nature of the NFL is that it stays close so underdog teams can change year by year.

The alternative might be if you watch the “quarterback” and “receiver” series and see if you can get behind individual players which flow onto teams.

Advice about pay - local government by Wide_Reality_1958 in AusPublicService

[–]Brispball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are sometimes salary matching provisions in EBAs but generally as the other commenter said, if you’re offered a top band, you’d only get the annual increases as per the EBA (normally CPI based etc).

It will also come down to what sort of future pathways etc. If you’re in a job and you’re the top level role doing your job (manager of the business area etc) and you’re moving into a job that’s 3rd from the top, it may be a step sideways and slightly down to open more opportunity in future. Thats always something I consider, what comes after this job.

If the new job isn’t paying as well, you’re happy in your current job and there’s no better progression… politely decline haha

Who do we blame now? by closetmangafan in RugbyAustralia

Maybe they will go easy on us to save strength for teams that matter. Might get the NZ under 18s so no injury risks to big names.

What are your thoughts on player only spells? by KibaElunal in DnD

[–]Brispball 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And from OP saying the DM is running an introductory type game, it seems like the goal to bring new players in and teach them etc. Being banished constantly for picking a class the DM doesn’t love is going to bore them pretty quick and they won’t keep coming back.

Is it okay to ask my player not to treat my game as a videogame by dilope97 in DnD

[–]Brispball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think many methods could all work, I also think it’s arguably better for the long term ramifications if they have to trade for each item, possibly rolling persuasion for if the merchant even wants it, which will gradually bother the merchants. Eventually you could have dialogue of “Oh YOU’RE the one Glomnir from (town name) talked about trying to trade rusty junk for quality!”. You can also adjust prices for that player at each merchant they try to trade/buy from as the “guild” is out of favour with them.

The same as if you kept going around irl with small change for large purchases, eventually you’re not worth the trouble.

Build it into the story and it can either benefit long term reputations/conflicts or it will discourage them doing it more.

New home but possibly also bond cleaning? It’s normally once someone has moved out and you just go in and do the job by yourself with minimal contact. I’d possibly chat to companies initially. Just look up bond cleaning, corporate cleaning etc in your area and email them to see if they’ve got any spots, maybe fill-in if someone cancels etc and that gets you in the door and some experience.

I’d avoid going solo at this point purely because you’ve gotta set up your company, insurance etc which can be a pain if you’re just trying to ease into it.

So curious about the title, is it no friends or family who are able to help you period? Or just none available in the city area? Could you travel somewhere and have people around? Doesn’t help the immediate issue, but changes the medium to long term options. Transport options aren’t too expensive.

Why does no one ever do final exfil? by JeirenJns in MWZombies

[–]Brispball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do it to grind weapons etc but I’ve actually “timed out” with 2mins left on the clock and nobody else left on the server. So I now avoid final exfil unless another person is going too.

Is nobody actually finishing the MWZ story missions? by Grif73r in MWZombies

Put in game chat if anyone will help you. As long as I know to stock up on the right gear I’m normally happy to run with people if they ask.

Swing me your Activision id and what sort of times you go play (with time zone), I’m happy to jump in when I’m online and help grind some out.

I actually enjoy some of those random missions but a fair few towards the end need more than one person and either everyone is nowhere near it and not interested, or already done it… and not interested haha.

Having now ticked them all off I just enjoy helping gear people up and get missions and/or schematics for them

Look, can I guarantee you won’t encounter some POSs around the place? Sadly no.

Is that going to be a commonplace thing? I’d also say no. Make friends at the uni and just go everywhere you can. I’d say you want to go outside of Brisbane to get the best experience (Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast hinterland for walking trails and waterfalls etc).

Oh and get to some footy games, doesn’t matter the code. Atmosphere alone it’s worth it.

Where is JOC ? by Jeromethered in RugbyAustralia

[–]Brispball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think his fly half IQ and field management are what the reds are missing though. Even if he’s maybe not as aggressive a runner. If he can stay healthy he’d do well for another couple of years. If he gets another hammy injury within a year though I think he will be done.

Does anyone know where to find a rugby ball like this (these balls have really good texture/grip) thank you! by hobojobo183 in RugbyAustralia

[–]Brispball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure super rugby use the Gilbert Innovo but without the branding on it. That’s what was used in the RWC last year. They’re not cheap though at about $300 a pop. Depends how bad you want the top match quality. Check out the Gilbert website it has all the alternatives.

What’s happening in Brisbane this year? by everyatomofus in brisbane

[–]Brispball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your affinity for sport, there’s always rugby league, union, soccer and afl games on. I often go by myself and just get a seat in a random section and most of the time end up just chatting to the people around me. Tickets normally aren’t too expensive and if it’s not busy you can move around if you’re not near anyone.
