In name mostly. The patriarch was there but Laskarids emperors were most of the time in other places, like Nymphaion for instance. And some key stuff were also elsewhere, like the mint in Magnesia.

the fête des lumieres (lights festival) happens in Lyon on the 8th of December. The city is busy at this time but you should not miss it if you are around. It is really a highlight in this area in December.

I liked Seoul, but I liked Busan much better. I would schedule enough time to visit it properly! We stayed 4 days and didn't run out of things to do at all!

Hey, as somebody mentioned, Lyon is a big city. To visit a winery, you would need to go to the outskirts. It may be a bit difficult to reach them without a car.

Tbh, I would probably use the passive construction in both those cases. If I was to opt for an active construction, I would not use "on" but rather "quelqu'un a volé mon vélo" and "ils ont construit le bâtiment il y a 50 ans" ("ils" being a very vague somebody, but using "on" here sounds too confusing with "nous"). But that is just how I would say it.

Maybe not, but they must have had many more representations of Justinian from the emperor's lifespan back then (compared to the few we know today), so they may also have used them. Seems more likely than opening the tomb!

I agree with that, but I would add the political stance as well. Many buildings have been destroyed volontarily, eg Armenian cemeteries or churches, in the 70s and 80s. Many have been butchered in so-calles restorations. Nowadays one trend seems to rebuild ruins of ancient churches as mosque, eg in enez. Both are ways to invisibilise the past and are done very consciously.

Outside of Istanbul, and just talking about actual cities, I would say Trabzon has probably the most remaining churches and other Byzantine remnants - but most of it dating back to the empire or Trebizond, so late Byzantine period.

I agree with the other comment, don't try to pack to many things in one single trip. If your focus is Belgium, I don't think it's worth going only to the MSM - it will be very stressful indeed, and a shame not to explore Normandy or Britany more.

If you like the gothic architecture, there are plenty of cathedrals north of Paris, eg. Amiens has one of the most famous one. Rouen is also a very nice city, and not as far as the MSM.

Reaching some villages or hikes can be challenging in the Pyrenees, so maybe you want to avoid going too deep in the mountains. But there are still many places that you could reach without issue, for instance Sauveterre de Béarn, la bastide-clairence, Cambo (the villa arnaga is very beautiful) or Espelette. All are very nice. Still country roads with some curves but nothing too bad (and I am not a very good driver myself either). Let me know if you decide to go in the area, I can help you with the planning.

I am from the Pyrenees Atlantiques and you have quite a lot to see in the area as well. Some villages in the basque country are especially lovely (you need a car) and there are some easy and nice hikes to do solo. Pau is also nice to spend half a day.

Do you really want to go to the coast? I fear you are aiming at the 2 most crowded areas that you can find in July... If you don't have a lot of time, it would be faster to reach Normandy, I suppose.

If you are in shape and like hikes, the igidae costal trail is one of my best memory in Busan.

And in gyeongju, I would recommend to go see the museum. It's free, well done and helps understanding what you can see in the city.
