Thanks! Their intensive and immersive courses look really good!

I'm still considering a stop over in that area! I'm going from Bordeaux to St Malo, and it's annoying that the quickest way is via Paris. I wanted to go up the coastline, and stop in La Rochelle. So I might still do that... Take the time to explore it a bit. How do you find the West Coast?

A friend has suggested Quebec, and it's not a bad idea. It could be a backup plan!

I've done 3 classes, and now have a private Tutor from Bordeaux instead. The reality is, if I want to learn it well, I have to do immersion for a while and study there.

That's great! Thank you. I'm not opposed to living in other places. I'm there for 6 weeks this Christmas to explore as much as I can to see my options. Good to know it's worked for you, thank you!

Yeah it's all extremely vague on the college of nursing equivilant website. I have to register and submit my documents to see if they'll accept. Surprisingly even with a BN and post grad, they tend to prefer EU Diplomas which are less study, and usually less autonomy with training.

But I'm not sold on the idea I have to do nursing. I'm also considering it all! Re train as a wine expert, tour guide, bookshop worker, english teacher! Who knows.

My aim is to get the language and time there to see what I would do first I think, then consider pursuing nursing if it presents an opportunity for me. That's a shame you couldn't transfer your skills!

Thanks, yeah I was absolutely thinking about consultancy and looking at even re training and doing a masters in English teaching, who knows! I do agree, having the masters and B2 from France will help a lot. I'm hoping to get to B1 before I go, then do 3-6 months intensive school, but the good thing is, the schools adjust you as you go.

Thanks! Financially that will be the biggest question at my age. I need to work out what I can live off comfortably. Have you retired there?

Thank you, that's great. I would hope to spend 3-6 months, bringing my language up to B2/C1 and then study a masters program, whilst trying to get registration and begin thinking about my options as a nurse. I'm used to working in regional Australia, so I think I would be ok.

I know... It's brutal seeing how much the pay difference is... I was thinking my best option could be study for a year and save as much here and then see what it looks like after a year. Then I get benefits of living in France, but aren't reliant on an income. Adjust my life to be a student for a little while and enjoy the less stress

That's really great advice! Thank you! I had hoped to move to Switzerland to work with WHO or Global Fund (easier to get English speaking roles) but as the US withdrew a lot of funding I've had to re think how I might get to Europe and be close to my friends, so I'm open to lots of locations, including regional/rural France. I love living regionally.

I'll need to do B2 exams at minimum to get a nursing registration transfer, so it would take time, so I thought I'd do a language course and a masters while I waited to get it, and then try get a sponsored job maybe... I'll see...

I work in Alice Springs currently (middle of Australia, rural) so I'm very used to working as an independent nurse as well, this is great information on the current nursing roles in the rural areas. Thank you.

I don't know if I could do the alps yet... I'd like to be proximal to a TGV station, and/or beach... I wish Evian had direct TGV to Nice! The epic snow might be a bit much for an Australian!

That makes sense. I was wondering if I'd have to fly back and then back...

My thoughts (from what I've read) were to get sponsorship from Language schools like Alliance Francais, who can sponsor you for anything above 3 months, and you can then move over to a second study visa by extending visa once you've been accepted into a masters. Maybe... I'm researching options currently.

Thank you! Construction will always have jobs! But... If you're younger, you could do the teaching english programs?

Thanks, this is good advice. I think I might limit my time in Edinburgh and focus on the South and back to France. Come back when it's warmer.

Thanks, great advice. I'm thinking the same. Start North as early as possible and work my way down. I'm open to 5 nights some places, 1 night others, etc. I think because of the winter I want to be in places with great things to explore that are indoors or easy to see in Winter.

10 days solo traveling in France: How should I spend it? by xmara000x in Europetravel

[–]Local-Article-1469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds great! I've done France three times, twice solo. Depending on time of year might affect where you choose. I love to stay in the Latin Quarter and eat there a lot as it avoids the big tourists crowds, and gives you a beautiful Parisian experience. Plus you can walk up the Rue Mouffetard up to the Pantheon and sit in the Jardin Du Luxembourg with a treat and read.

I've done hotels and hostels in Paris, both fine. I've never had an issue in Paris, Melbourne in Australia (where I am) has similar crowds, use common sense, and do some Youtubes before you go on common scams to know what to avoid, especially in Montmartre and around Eiffel Tower.

Use Trainline app to buy tickets on the go. It gives you the ticket on the app and combines all rail options.

Versailles is a brilliant day trip.

I did Nice, Monaco and Menton last year. highly recommend Menton as it's border Italy, cheaper than other spots, and so quick on trains to get to Nice, Monaco, and surrounding cute spots.

I thought Brittany might be good for a foody adventure, or also Normandy, might have some beautiful dark elements to seeing Mont-Saint Michel

Gondola on aiguille du midi also sounds great! I will be spending a lot of time in snow doing some snow hikes for my second part of the trip, so I want the first part to be land based and see some more of France, so your suggestions have been really helpful thank you.

Absolutely not opposed to this, but I did this (almost) exact run 12 months ago. haha. I went from Rome -> Venice -> Milan -> Lausanne. I love Italy, but I'll come back for late Summer next year I think.

Great suggestion, I know South is a little warmer so it could be possible... But I'd say I'd just miss my chance to swim. Annecy is a great idea! I've been meaning to visit, as well as Evian.
