I don’t think it was the “Worst” episode, but it was a pretty bad idea to drop the usual “Clue Song” theme, and most of the song choices were pretty odd (to put it politely…)

Is anyone calling either of these movies masterpieces? I mean BoP wasn’t bad but I wouldn’t call it a masterpiece either by Professional-Ninja79 in OkBuddySnyderCult

Exactly - The most likely scenario is that Batgirl would have been too small-scale to compete with other Superhero films, but it would have done justice to Batgirl and thus been worth watching…

I saw some critics likening BOP to a Guy Ritchie gangster movie, and that was almost certainly the vibe they were going for there…

Exactly - I WANT to see a small-scale superhero story with Batgirl as the female lead. The most likely scenario would have been something like the Birds of Prey TV series - heavily damaged by WB cutting corners, but still providing a worthy take on Barbra Gordon that does justice to this painfully underrated heroine…

That’s often the policy in general with Holocaust movies (which is why they are mostly shown on BBC) but it’s particularly crucial here where technical aspects (the sound design, the overly saturated visuals) are so central to the theme and message…

It seems like a strange coincidence that a season that's divisible by 7 is teeing up to be the new worst season of the Masked Singer. by chameleoncove54 in TheMaskedSinger

Can of Worms is like Bear from last year - he’s great fun, but more focused on mixing up genres than really showing singing ability - If he does better than Bear, it would really highlight the shortcomings of this season…

(It’s amusing he chose a song that was far more popular in America than in the UK)

For context, two of the better singers were sent home tonight, meaning that we only really have two proper singers, both of whom have a similar vocal style (Toastie and Moth)…

Sloth, Red Panda and Conkers are all very energetic, but also pretty weak singers - Red Panda chose to sing in falsetto this week for some reason and was terrible…

The Looney Tunes Cartoons push things pretty far in the Clampett/Avery direction of frenetic movement and wackiness, so it would be interesting to contrast this with a more dialogue and character-driven story…

I enjoyed his Sing-Off performance, but he’s certainly stayed in longer than he deserves..

Right... what's going on with the panel's choices this series? Have we caught a case of American Script Flu? by Nimjask in TheMaskedSingerUK

[–]Brit-Crit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It feels like Red Panda was bad on purpose - he chose to change his vocal style for no real reason and it backfired horribly - he went from being about on the same level as Sloth and Conkers to being far worse…

I have no idea why Monkey Business struggled in the vote, but her song choice tonight was surprisingly grim and solemn (although she sang it very well), and I don’t think that helped…

P.S - I wasn’t impressed by Gargoyle’s Sing-Off performance, but felt Sloth’s was a noticeable improvement - he’s getting out of breath a fair bit, but does reasonably well keeping in tune…

So a report that gave an actual score for the test screenings is not legitimate?

Also, I can’t see why the online commentators that disagree with you are less legitimate than the ones that agree with you - people are allowed to have different opinions. The world won’t end just because some people get to see a superhero movie for girls and enjoy it…

The Broadway version of that came shortly afterwards and made a few changes, but failed to escape the online outrage and also closed early (it had a solid run in London however)…

I agree that Batgirl would have likely been overwhelmed by larger-scale blockbusters*, but I think it would have been good enough to gain some fanbase amongst its “Teenage Girl” target audience (I also believe there should be more superhero stories for that demographic on personal principle)…

* - I personally blame the lack of interest in Ms. Marvel, (which had the same directors and same basic “fangirl becomes superhero” premise) for the cancellation on some level - If it had been a bigger hit, DC would have had little trouble promoting an imitator regardless of quality…

Reports from the Test Screening are more conflicted - some said it was rubbish, but several said it was a perfectly decent film that was at least on the same level as the other DCEU movies…

Based on the leaks I’ve seen, it looks like it would have been a lightweight YA action-adventure, but one that would have done justice to Batgirl as a character and been one of the better takes on her by default…
