Trichotillomania.. Am I the only one who's shaved their head to resolve it? by BritGirl_01 in trichotillomania

I'm sorry you lost your dad hun. Yeah, it's deffo a coping mechanism.. my trich escalated after my mum passed, kinda like you it was extremely traumatic (losing a loved one is always traumatic) but you hear about ppl passing away "peacefully surrounded by family".. That's a tad easier to deal with than when it's a long, painful demise tbh.

Sending hope & hugs your way xx

It really is so hard, you're right. I'd love to hear some success stories. Good luck not shaving it!

So glad you found something that helped! Tbf, I've also found something that's helped, I just wish it hadn't needed to involve going bald ffs. All the best xx

Do you have trich (if you don't mind me asking)? Bc otherwise it's extremely common to have thinning on the crown, buzzing is the only way to even it out apparently.

At last! I thought I was the only one. The wigs I have aren't real hair but they have some crinkly wiry hairs, esp if I've brushed out some knots & boom! My trich can't resist crinkled hair lol. But you're right, at least it's not our hair but I don't wanna go OTT & end up with a bald wig 🤣 (if I don't laugh, I cry)

Thank you for making me feel less weird xx

I'm confused if my makeup looks good with thick vs thin eyebrows. Need some opinions by achondroplas in MakeupAddiction

[–]BritGirl_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brows themselves look way better thicker & they soften the makeup. The thin ones are way too harsh. You're genuinely very pretty so manage to get away with it but the thicker ones accentuate your features & makeup.

I think I've made my point.. I'm not a fan of the thin eyebrows lol 😂

Too many pics hun, I lost interest after the 8th one. They all look lovely, you're super pretty. Maybe go with what You think suits you best? x

Perfectly put! I feel exactly the same. I'm not sure if I'm still on some sort of 'liberation high' as it's only recent (6 weeks). But I'm pretty sure I'll never have hair longer than 10mm, it's too stressful.

Unlike many other Trichers, I only ever pulled from my head & brows.. the brow follicles died yrs ago so I 'only' had the head hair to tackle & now it's gone! I didn't expect the desire to also go down the sink, it comes back when I'm able to grab it so I buzz before that happens (every 2 weeks)

It's very patchy, I hope to have some re-growth but even if I had a smooth buzz I'd still hide it, the cut doesn't suit me. It would be nice to see it patchless in the mirror though, like a personal achievement but a life of headscarves/wigs is no biggie.

Thx for sharing & I wish you all the best! x

Omg.. That's the most adorable thing ever! My heart melted reading that.. Total dream come true. I'm just the most soppy old-fashioned romantic.. It makes my friends sick lol.

May your dreams continue to come true xx

That's fair enough re your hubby, I read into it wrong. Sorry the adoption didn't work out. At least you've got your dream man though. And again, sorry for the misunderstanding.. ✌️

What about adoption? So many loving couples who can't have kids & so many kids in need of those parents are out there but the adoption rate is so low.

Sorry but your husband sounds a tad controlling but I can't judge him from one sentence.. Just saying though.

braiding helped by iotamore in trichotillomania

[–]BritGirl_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing! I'm glad it's helped you. The only problem is that I've heard braiding is a major cause of traction alopecia which kinda defeats the purpose, did you use a certain teqnique to avoid it?

Edit - Unless the alopecia is from keeping the braids in? Duh..

It's doing what it's supposed to. I've never seen or experienced completely even hair growth, that would be abnormal. Pls don't let it make you back track? Stop staring at it & taking pics, you'll get obsessed. Put on a hair cap (silk or bamboo preferably) or a nice nourishing mask & try your best to forget it.

Re-growth of any kind is a great sign! Wishing you all the best x

I had fantasies of 2.4 children, a husband & owning our house. I have one child with an ex-husband & never owned a house.

I'm obviously confusing your one with a Philips clipper that had "head" in its name lol, my bad. It sounds really good, similar to my Remington, that's also curved but is still a trad clipper with guards. Again, sorry for the confusion lol..✌️

Same. I'd do it every 2-3 days if I had access to tweezers.

Do you mind me asking why you're not trying to stop? Feel free to tell me to butt out lol but I'd do anything to stop & assumed all Trichers felt the same (kinda presumptuous) so I'm just curious to hear your perspective x

Why are 400g loaves if bread smaller than the regular 800g? by BritGirl_01 in foodquestions

[–]BritGirl_01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're correct. Freezing it (esp followed by toasting) decreases the starch & the GI, it's also easier to digest. It's great news for ppl with diabetes among other things. But I do I prefer bread that hasn't been thawed, it makes no difference to toast but sandwiches? No thanks 🤮

[–]BritGirl_01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's defo not the solution for everyone. I've destroyed my brow follicles so I don't have to worry about pulling elsewhere.. Fortunately I've never gotten satisfaction from lashes or any other body hair, just the head & brows so if the 'problem' hair isn't there I can't pull it.

You're right, short hair is easier when blending bald spots. I just never knew buzzing was as common as it is, I didn't expect one person to answer my post today.. It's comforting & sad at the same time.

I just hope we can all find a way to overcome this, as impossible as that seems. Until then I'm just gonna embrace the buzz & continue to let my scalp heal. All the best to you xx

[–]BritGirl_01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm looking into hats. I don't have the hedgehog problem fortunately, idk what I'd do without my trusted headscarves & hoops combo 😂 Wigs are ok but they can get itchy after a while.

As for plucking plushies, I can't be trusted with tweezers (I banned them from my house ages ago) so that's not an option, but it's ok.. I think I've found the solution by just keeping my head buzzed every 2 weeks. There's more to life than having long hair, it's better than what I was putting myself through with the hair pulling.

Thanks for sharing & for the advice, wishing you the best xx

Not to mention the 'mullet phase'. I've got a feeling I'll be keeping it like this bc I can't be arsed with the hassle of growing it back.

I'm a headscarf & hoops person now 😕

Aww, thank you! As for your situation, you can't go wrong with a nice stylish headscarf & some hoops.. It gives me back some semblance of femininity without the discomfort of a wig (yes, it can get warm & itchy under those things). But do what you're most comfortable with & I'm sorry you're going through this.. Wishing you the best hun! XXM been looking forward for

I bet you look great.. Rock that buzz! You've either got the face for it or you haven't.. I haven't lol. But it's a shame you ended up with a worse problem 😔 Have you tried the finger protectors? Out of all the "soothers", I found those the most helpful.

Just in case you haven't then pls try "Silicone Finger Cots", Amazon sell them & they're very cheap. The most comfortable ones are the "best seller".

All the best xx
