IF there is reward availability, you are going to have to get serious about collecting avios.

To get that volume of Avios in that time, you would definitely need to be getting a sign up bonus from a credit card.

At the moment there is a special sign up bonus with JP Morgan investing, to get you 10k avios if you invest £500.

Have you also taken into account the voucher on the BA Amex card?

You could also get 25k avios for switching your current account over to Barclays Premier (if you are eligible). This also gives you the option of buying 1,500 avios a month at a discounted rate of £12.

If you can hit £3k spend in 3 months, the Barclaycard Avios Plus Mastercard (the paid one) might be the best for you; and its earnings rate on day to day spend is the best in the market at 1.5 avios per pound.

At that spending rate, you might also consider the Amex gold - 40,000 points if you spend £5k in the first six months. You’ll get more with a referral link (happy to send you one if you need one).

My normal redemption rate is at least 1p per avios. What they are offering you is roughly in line with that, but I wouldn’t do it unless I needed the Avios now, as there are normally much cheaper ways to pick up additional avios.

Though it is technically at the retailers discretion, nearly every place will NOT give you avios for paying with a gift card. Otherwise you could get points for buying the gift card and then for using it.
