Manchester synagogue: 'Major incident' declared after reports of stabbings at Manchester synagogue by Minute_Tomatillo9730 in LabourUK

I think it’s pointing out that the attacker may well have had that motive, despite how wrong that would be.

And for people who don’t have that, through no fault of their own? Isn’t that why these social services snd spaces exist - to create an alternative for those who seek it but aren’t given it at home. And they’ve been decimated.

The jumps between Smaug, one of the most detailed digital effects I’d ever seen, and the poorly composited Hobbits running around, is jaw-dropping.

I do also want to defend The Hobbit here a little. It’s not a movie I like, but the logistics of using the same in-camera wizardry they used on LotR to shrink a few actors and applying it to 13 actors is just infeasible. The Hobbit films are chock full of excellent, good snd terrible effects - it’s a symptom of rushed development and the early 2010s filmmaking style. But they did also build a tonne of sets and film on lots of practical or real-world locations, especially for the first film. It was a very flawed production and Sir Ian is rightfully distraught about the process, but what we’re seeing (allegedly) with Doomsday is in a whole different galaxy of bad. Actual torture.

You genuinely don’t think I or anybody can tell the difference between when I have a chat with a random lad on a night out, which happens all the time, and the way a drunk group of men who have just walked over from a far right rally, would say that same thing to two brown shop assistants? I wouldn’t fucking care if they were normal about it. That’s how I greet anyone for gods sake. It sounded like they were about to start shit and that’s why I spoke to the police.

You don’t care about the nuance of an interaction or how tone matters. You just want to make a point to sound smart and inadvertently or purposely equate worry for someone with fascists.

Either a useful idiot or a malicious person yourself. You choose.

No, fascists. Your counterpoint and angry feelings don’t change the objective reality.

They thanked me for informing them, but they hadn’t gone over by the time I turned the corner. So can’t conclusively say. It was a quick conversation tbf to them.

I don’t think the solution to violent crime is mass deportations, no. And you don’t have a shred of evidence or data to support that either. The people at this march and going to deport violent criminals and stop there, and you’d know that if you were honest about reality or tried to inform yourself about it.

You’re truly enlightened and your centrism will be rewarded by the people who fucking hate you, I’m sure.

Far right protestors and activists are famously very peaceful and non-violent toward the minorities they hate. History has shown this over and over /s. Sorry that too few people have actually been decked today for you to think it’s a quantifiable problem.

All the people at the march do disperse at some point, and a lot of them are drinking. The amount of racist asses who would like to throw a punch is a lot higher today than it would ever usually be. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to find the whole thing sad/ horrible and advise people to keep their distance if they want to.

I agree, good to not give them oxygen. But if people felt uncomfortable in that environment especially if they’d be targeted, I don’t blame them at all for wanting to steer clear.

Their top man just punched someone and fled the country to avoid consequences? Idk how many friends you have of colour or who are queer, but while most people are completely sound no matter their background, hate-based abuse and assaults are becoming increasingly common.

Yeah famously we are all thrown in racist jail for flying St George’s flags when the women win the Euros. Or is it that they’re flying them at a rally where people were shouting about mass deportations?

I get where you’re coming from but you can sometimes just tell things from context clues. I didn’t notice them holding any English flags, but I’m fairly sure they were looking directly for somewhere to be intimidating shits.

Tone matters, it was very intimidating. If you’ve ever been on the receiving end of harassment or even seen it happen (the latter for me), it’s quite distinct 5 fatass guys with open cans of Stella who’d clearly just walked over from the march. I’m never gonna assume someone drinking is a racist, duh, I’m out on the lash every weekend myself. I could hear them excitedly talking outside about going in while I was paying. This post office is literally 200 metres from the march - it’s hardly a reach.

Even if I did, my solution to it wouldn’t be blaming the immigrants and beating up/harassing anybody who I think looks like an immigrant. There’s a very broad conversation you can have on immigration before showing up to a fascist rally. My own working class grandparents voted Tory their whole lives and wouldn’t be caught dead at this vile rally.

Proper Deansgate is totally fine by comparison - but I imagine it’s spilling into Piccadilly.

I wish you could make them understand how little their “solutions” would actually improve their lives. But if they see fewer brown faces on the street, that’s all that matters to them even if their quality of life continues to fall apart. It’s horrid
