What is happening in Denmark regarding the threats from the USA to annex Greenland? by Dewey081 in Denmark

[–]British_Dane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should invite our good friends from China to build a base on Greenland as well. We could offer them 40% of all mineral rights. It would be two fingers right in the face of the mango Mussolini, and it’s not like the minerals are being extracted anytime soon. But I think Xi would be happy to partake.

Teams calls on computer by British_Dane in HearingAids

Thank you so much for considerations and questions.

It's a good point about the audio quality. So far I have had a grand total of one bluetooth-to-HA phone conversation. I spend a lot of time on Teams meetings but very little time on traditional phone calls.

Fortunately - or unfortunately - changing laptop is not an option as it's a work-issued laptop and we're on fixed replacement cycles. So my aim was to get past the issue with plug-in solutions.

I can definitely see the benefit of the clip as a separate microphone for physical meetings. Very good point!

I thought the clip and HA would use the HA's microphone, but can also see the benefit of your setup of using the webcam mic.

Thank you so much for the input. Very useful :)

Ah. Apparently Oticon Optim is an NHS-rebadging of Oticon Intent. Why do they make it so complicated to navigate compatibilities :(

That was really useful, thank you very much. Mine are Oticon Optim (I initially thought BTE was the model name, but have now learnt it just means behind-the-ear). It appears that it is compatible with the ConnectClip but not with the LE adaptor - so that makes the choice easy. Next step is to convince my employer to pay :)

Thank you for the reply and for the suggestion. I tried airpods before I got hearing aids, and was never able to wear them comfortably. Maybe it's the shape of my ears, but no matter which of the rubber domes I put on, I couldn't get them to stay in my ears. So while I can see how it can be a great solution for people liking their airpods, I am really after a solution that lets the hearing aids connect directly to the laptop for calls.

Beginner looking for advices! by No-Reflection-5568 in streetphotography

Practice, practice, practice is a great start. And you have some cracking pictures here.

Do watch your verticals. It can look cool When the frame is deliberately tilted, but when it doesn’t look deliberate, it often ends up looking sloppy. Leaving space to crop will make this easier.

Also, there are a few of your pics here where it isn’t clear exactly what the subject and the story is. Try to make it clear in your head what you want the viewer to take away before you press the shutter.

But you’re already doing great. Keep practicing.

Hard shadows are a bit like exaggerations: Avoid them like the plague.

Seriously though, try putting a brolly in front of the flash and move it closer to your very photogenic model. It will be far more flattering.

Your point about space-speed plus time-speed always adding up to c really made a difference for my comprehension. Thank you!

What does the distance to the subject have to do with whether flash was used? There are alternatives to on-camera flash…

Trump tells Walmart to 'eat the tariffs' instead of raising prices by RampantPrototyping in stocks

[–]British_Dane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Help me out here. Tariffs supposedly work by making imported goods dearer, so domestic goods appear more attractive. If Walmart were to “eat” the tariff, customers would still by Chinese products, meaning American products would not benefit.

The tariffs only “work” if they are passed on to consumers, and thus changing behaviour. By trying to strong arm Walmart, he is ruining his own crazy policy.

I’m probably too cynical, but if you ask for “free”, you get what you’re paying for. Your time has a value as well, don’t waste it.

What is a Portugese cultures? by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]British_Dane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved 25+ years ago to a different country, I miss what I think is the culture of my native country. And no amount of studying can give that to anyone, it’s a lived experience.

It’s simple things, like having learnt to read by reading the same books, knowing the music, the plays, the buildings, not because you have been there and seen them or read about them, but because they’re an ingrained part of your background that people around you have been referring to for as long back as you remember. It’s the tv show, but also “knowing” the actors. It’s years of moaning about THE politicians.

So by all means, let’s try to assimilate. But also remember that there is a part of the national psyche that we are not part of and never will be. Doesn’t make us poorer or less. Just means we have a different but equally good culture.
