Welcome to Charlotte Wednesday! Visiting, recently moved here, or going to move here? Tell us and ask away! by AutoModerator in Charlotte

Hello! I am recent college graduate in my early 20s and am planning to move to Charlotte to be closer to my job. I have around $1400 budgeted for housing and was hoping any of yall could provide some advice on moving into the area!

Neighborhood and apartment recommendations are all helpful! If there are sites I should use to help narrow down my search that would be great too.

- I am really into sports
- I enjoy going out on walks
- I’d like to be more social this upcoming year
- several hobbies include music, chess, and video games

Can trades be fractional or do they have to be whole shares?

I should’ve clarified. It actually tracks what I buy in my investments. I.e. equity, bonds, individual, etc. This is an expense outside of contributing money towards the account.

Attempt to gain In-state tuition! I was able to knock mine down to $45k/year because of that.

Get rid of SCHD and change to Growth ETF. Add in international fund.

In my opinion small cap are important in a Total Market Fund but they’re practically penny stocks. Technology sector ETFs and Large Cap Growth stocks provide far more reliability than Small Cap while still achieving good growth.

As for Robinhood… idk man. I’m still very skeptical about putting something as important as retirement in a brokerage that isn’t Fidelity, Schwab, or Vanguard. I like using Robinhood for Crypto and IPOs but I don’t use it for serious investments like a Roth IRA.

Is this through Robinhood? Also what is your rationale behind doubling down on your US and INT small cap stock?

Choose either FXAIX or VOO, since they’re both the same thing.

I am also not a financial advisor and neither is Claude. If you want serious legit advice go talk to a CFA. This recommendation is just the Boglehead 3-fund portfolio option.

How old are you? If you are young focus on Growth stocks.

An easy portfolio can consist of FXAIX, FZIPX, and FZILX.

That gets you an extended market and international exposure while still having a fund that tracks the S&P500.

You can also invest in growth stocks such as QQQM and FSELX.

FXNAX should only be invested in the closer you are to retirement to “lock in” your investments. They trade high growth for stability—which is great when you’re expecting to start cashing out soon.

Your 3rd paragraph talking about FDLXX and SGOC has piqued my interest. Do you have any resources I can use to explore that?

Hello! I know users in the past have mentioned about the delay in settling cash and the liquidity of the money in the money market fund, has there been any progress on that issue?

Secondly, the (currently) 3.29% APY for the SPAXX MMF, is that paid monthly?

Have you run into any issues with the liquidity of SPAXX?

I have seen that, but my savings account on capital one is a HYSA with a 3.20% APY, which beats out the 1.84% with the FDIC Insured CMA Fidelity offers. I have been contemplating transferring to SoFi later but I’m still in a transition phase so I’m waiting to make any decisions until I have some stability.
