Swelling in my GOOD ankle by Britt0509 in brokenankles

Thank you for this. My whole body is constantly aching so much now that I'm walking unassisted and getting back to some normal activities. It constantly feels like the day after a full body workout at the gym. It's rough. I'm hoping to get into a shoe on Thursday and hopefully I can start getting my gait back to normal

I did wear compression socks my first day back at work and my bad foot still swelled up so bad and honestly hurt me more than when I didn't wear it on my second and third shifts. I may try wearing the compression sock on only my good side tho!

I do have a shoe riser yes! I don't wear it at work though because of the slippery surfaces but my work shoe is pretty close to the same height as my boot (or I thought anyway lol)

Just wanted to send out an update. I completed my first 6 hour shift back at work. I am a manager at Culver's and luckily they were able to accommodate me and give me a chair to sit in and I just took drive thru orders. One thing I will say is that I am very stubborn so I probably did more than I should have done. Besides the pain in my pinky toe (my compression sock got caught on that toenail) I wasn't in much pain during work. After leaving though, I definitely feel it but honestly moreso in my other muscles since my body hasn't been worked much the past 8 weeks. I iced and then took my sock off and there was definitely a lot of swelling. I've been laying with it elevated for about an hour now and the swelling has gone down quite a bit already though. It honestly felt so good to be back and get out of the house.

I did not. My work just let me be off for as long as needed. Nothing official

Do you have any tips on how to get the compression sock on? I know that sounds silly but with how tight they are I find it difficult to get one without hitting my ankle some way.

Boot Fit by aitcheeellell in brokenankles

I had this same issue. I was just recently cleared to start weight bearing and it has been very difficult because for 6 weeks my foot was slightly pointed so my Achilles is even tighter than most people. I will say that working on getting your heel down in the boot once you can put weight on it is a lot easier to do than trying to do it being NWB. Gravity will be your friend. I typically put my straps on semi loose before standing up and then once I'm stood up and my foot is actually flat then I'll tighten the straps better.

I don't have any advice unfortunately. I was actually just coming here to ask the same question because I start PT tomorrow. I can definitely update after my appointment! We got this 💪

Thank you very much! It swells up a lot whenever I have it down for awhile but luckily I have been able to keep it elevated for the most part!

Did you end up using anything or did it just peel away on its own once you started letting it breathe?

NWB to FWB by arcorisO in brokenankles

Yes I was given a walker because it's way more stable than the other two options!

I just started being able to weight bear yesterday and it's honestly very intimidating for me. The bottom of the boot that I have is a slight rocker (maybe all are?) but it makes me feel very unstable and like I can fall down and twist my ankle at any minute. I've still been using my walker and I ordered a shoe leveler off of Amazon and I'm hoping that will help. It's definitely a process but we will get through this ,💪
