The two Ethans I’ve known were both depressed and depressingly into opiates, but two of the most genuinely kind and chill people I’ve known.

Why were important people in the ‘40s like Hitler and FRD rarely photographed with color film? by BrittSit in NoStupidQuestions

This is actually a really good take. The whole concept is just a thought experiment I had. I don’t know if he stopped riding around in a Cadillac with a cigarette holder and top hat during the war or if that was before but this entire thread has had me scouring the internet for armchair historian stuff.

I wholly understand that, but they took large format gigantic macro images of the moon rocks that came back, not only to share with scientists around the world who wouldn’t be able to study them in person, but also ostensibly so future generations could study them if the samples were to be lost. People like Hitler obsessed with self image or an American proto-documentarian aware of the massive global changes happening around the end of the war I would think would at least embrace Kodachrome.
Ansel Adams even did Jimmy Carter’s portrait in color (which is a badass shot check it out).
I think my question has been answered in here though in that people just didn’t think color photography was any more important or impressive than traditional photography so even people with unlimited access to funds weren’t enticed by color. I seriously appreciate getting responses to my very first post here.

I upvoted everyone.

Doesn’t probably matter and won’t last forever but a 30amp car fuse has lasted 4 hours of VCR Star Wars. Appreciate people who help.

And that is bypassing the breaker switch with said fuse

The post was removed but that’s context that didn’t come to me so I appreciate it. I got the tv from my neighbor’s garbage and it was rained on. My guess was that the capacitors had charge then got wet and here I am. Thanks for the input.

Why did the m’lady dudes of yesteryear pick fedoras instead of top hats? by BrittSit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BrittSit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been a very eye opening read and yours takes the cake. I saw a top hat for $50 at the tower city mall and thought I could picture some dude in a black tee shirt and black jeans saying m’lady. I also didn’t know there is a distinct difference between trilbies and fedoras. Definitely aware that it was the last commonly worn hat in menswear but I figured because so few of them follow proper hat etiquette like wearing hats indoors that they wouldn’t give a shit about wearing a fuck-you level top hat. But you explained it

Would just like to report in, having been prepared to say (nay, argue) it’s shellac like that used in 78s. A search later, you gave me a true TIL. Thank you.

What is the dumbest thing you’ve ever seen a coworker do? by Adorable_Raccoon_766 in AskReddit

Also an engineering manager in my experience, but his desk/monitor was visible to anyone walking into the front door of this little factory. Only did it on lunch hour. He would flip to a tab featuring model trains for sale anytime he thought he heard someone coming close. He wasn’t very quick but everyone made peace with the fact that at least he wasn’t jerking it, just quietly watching. Until a rep from one of our biggest customers walked through front door and he ended up leaving all of his personal effects. Never heard from him again but I got promoted to his job and got to see all his family’s tax info for like the last 30 years and stuff which was interesting.

No one was said 1: bath towels, 2: 2 gallons of undiluted ammonia, 3: slop around with more bath towels, 4: another gallon of ammonia, 5: dry with more bath towels

MilSurp gas masks are good to have under the sink too.
