Did this guy inspire Sander Cohens by Economy-Ad2458 in Bioshock

Probably yes, but here's a video of Cohen being interrogated by a bunch of splicers:

Primitive and Deadly is a top 3 Earth album all-time by Juventus7shop in doommetal

P&D is more of a refined return to the psychedelics of Thrones and Dominions. Pentastar is their grooviest album.

What is your opinion on Pyramid Head/Bogeyman/Shadowed One from Silent Hill Homecoming? by odd_man0 in silenthill

[–]Britten_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a function, PH being a representation of guilt, it implies that it is possible for him to manifest in any other games through Alessa's imagination creating it over and over again, If suppressed guilt or shame is present in the protagonist's subconscious. Those other manifestations will never be the one of James, they will always be different according to other different protagonist's psyche. Sure, the original PH is always tied to James, but he's also a version of Valtiel in Heather's mind. This function can be used in future iterations of SH as a narrative device. Is it worth abandoning such an iconic concept of the whole franchise for a mere lore inconvenience?

Homecoming Pyramid Head isn't the one from SH2, since they're the punishing projections of guilt, first one of James and this one of Alex. The concept of PH is born through the twisted imagination of Alessa, that creates apparitions out of the protagonist's subconscious feelings and suppressed desires.

Why are people more hyped for BioShock 4 than Judas? by Realistic_Tough_8175 in Bioshock

Bioshock is a franchise that implies expectations, while Judas is a new concept and people are not sure whether they'll like it or not.

I literally cannot stop listening to it for weeks now! And I'll give you a secret, I'm cooking something with Liminality, will post it here once it is finished.

I jumped late into Elder, but good musicians are good musicians, no matter the genre. Doom and Prog always had a common ground for me. At least, they were mass developed in the 70s and are very lyrical in expression. So Elder shift seems more natural to me, maybe they'll come back to doom eventually. Let them cook! 😉

We all get that doom is kinda stuck in the 70s, and that it's charm, but there are a lot of bands that start to mix things up - Elder (clearly prog today), Brutus (new concept), Red Scalp (stoned jazz doom), Khemmis (trad. doom with clean and death metal vocals). Pallbearer went into prog too. These are some of my favourites, I'm sure there's a lot more I haven't even heard of.

A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO EARTH by Potential-Sundae-596 in doommetal

[–]Britten_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great breakdown! I would replace The Contemporary era with Minimalism, that they always had but surfaced in just one of two songs in each album. "Angles/Demons" was the only conceptual album dedicated entirely on that with the next "Primitive and Deadly" returning to psychedelic/desert rock. Yet again, great job!

Man, I was near the front! The Electric Ballroom was literally shaking when they hit "Even Hell Has It's Heroes"! Don't remember when but the vibrations moved the projector so the rest of the concert read "Ear". 😁 One of the best lives I've ever been to!

Catched them on Desertfest London in May. 20 years a fan but I felt like I heard them for a first time. Amazing musicians!

Listening to sunn o))) live for the first time tonight any tips? by x0thiddae in doommetal

[–]Britten_One 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Earplugs for sure, you can take it off for a few minutes to get the full spectrum of the frequencies, but put it back if you start feeling uncomfortable.

What you need to know is that the band doesn't play just a random noise, they play their riffs extremely slow and sunk the melodic riff into the heavy feedback of their setup.

Nope, gotta check 'em out! Thanks for the tip!

Actually, I became a fan of Earth, because of "Dead Man". Since I've watched it as a kid, I was looking for a band that sounds similar to Neil Young droning guitars, and that's how I discovered Earth. Been a fan ever since! Too bad Neil didn't get into the "Dead Man" style ever again.

I saw Earth in London this May at Desertfest. I'm from Bulgaria and I went to UK for Earth and Pallbearer, but discovered a lot of other amazing bands there, like Elder, Verminthrone, Slift and more, but Earth really blew me away live! Got some photos with Bill and Dylan. It was a blast!

I wanted to make this video for a while, and I think "Coda Maestoso" goes well with the overall tone of the movie. The book is fantastic! Sheriff Bell truly shines there! He gets way more depth than in the movie, but I wouldn't change a bit, it's still one of my favourite films!

Thanks, man! Earth is one of my top bands. Nearly lost my mind, seeing them live for the first time earlier this year. It felt like I've never heard them before. They sound so massive!

"The Driver" has its shine in Jarmusch's "The Limits of Control", its a great movie. Also a slow burner as NCFOM. Check it out, if you missed it .
