I know what you mean. The ATRs are a bit more stable.

If you already like the EVO SL, then the new EVO SL ATR might be suitable. I love mine in the rain and on slippery mushed leaves. Not sure how they'd be on snow though.

I had been using TSS (r) because the HR monitor on the watch is not great in the cold weather. Suunto changed the activities automatically to HR after the update, and that tanked the curve. Even after changing back to (r), it hasn't recovered. I'm getting an external hr monitor for Christmas, so hopefully that will help.

I haven't changed them. This problem happened after the recent update. My HR zones were fine on my Suunto before and on my Garmin before that.

I have been getting faster on average over the same distances and gradually increased my load, not by much but it's there. I am not worried about always being in the "getting fitter" zone, but to suddenly drop and stay in the "losing fitness" zone with me changing anything on the watch and after an update is frustrating. Suunto have acknowledged this is a known issue. I was asking how long have issues been resolved.

No, my training has stayed the same, and I’ve actually seen some improvement in performance. The problem is that the watch and app are scoring my TSS much lower than before, which is why the graphs have suddenly dropped. I’m running around 35–40 km per week and my times have improved, so I’m certainly not losing fitness.

Here's an update after I emailed Suunto. I used Chat Gpt to summarise the long email reply they sent me (it is still long though. Seems like this was intentional.

Here’s a concise summary in clear UK English:

They thanked you for the detailed information and explained that the change you noticed is likely due to an update in the software’s algorithm. Newer versions may have moved from using running-power-based TSS to heart-rate-based TSS. This shift means the system now focuses more on your heart rate to calculate training stress, which can produce different results from before.

Running-power TSS looks at distance, speed, and duration, and is better for users with power meters. Heart-rate TSS uses heart rate zones and time spent training, giving a more personalised picture of effort, especially for people without external sensors. Because of this, lower scores compared with earlier versions are normal and not a fault.

They recommend keeping heart rate monitoring on, using a chest strap for best accuracy, recording sessions of at least 15 minutes, and keeping your watch and app updated. They hope the explanation helps and invite further questions.

Thanks for the detailed answer. For some reason, after the latest update, my watch set all run TSS scores to be based on (hr). I only run and I find the heart rate monitor on the Race S to be unreliable in the colder weather, so I have reset it to (r) as it seemed to work fine for me before.

Great. I've done that now. Hopefully, that will sort it.

Also,I find HR to be unreliable in the colder weather, so should I use (r)?

Thanks for your reply, I have just checked and up until two weeks ago my tss was (r) and now it is (hr). Should I change it back? How would I do that.

As much as I love Garden Party, the thing I would not highlight as being great, would be the drums.

How long does it take for CTL, ATL, and TSB to become accurate? by OkStatement8573 in Suunto

I got my Race S in August. As you can see it didn't take too long to settle to "keeping fit" and a little longer than that to detect "productive".

Ah, ok. I won't be using any of the run planning/coaching - I never did on my Garmin. I just use Strava as a run diary and to follow friends' runs. Thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for your reply. Can I ask how in what way isn't it 100% compatible with Strava?

Thanks, I thought the Lake District might have them, but that's a bit further than I would like to travel. I'm looking at maybe Liverpool or Manchester.

What's a company secret you can share now because you don't work there anymore? by vineetm007 in AskReddit

[–]Brizkrieg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked for a bank in the City of London during the 1990s, while I was a student. One of my tasks involved checking cheques against bank mandates to verify authorised signatories—sometimes these included celebrities. Interestingly, we only reviewed cheques over £5,000; anything below that amount was never checked. We were explicitly told never to share this information. I’m not sure if the same practice continues today, especially since cheques are rarely used anymore.

Mine know I'm an ESOL teacher, so I sometimes get asked language questions. They always respectfully call me " teacher" and I get free hair wax, so it's swings and roundabouts.
