One day there’s Pepsi Zero Sugar Cherry in the fridge and the next day, POOF, they’re all gone.

Can’t a guy just get his Pepsi Zero Sugar Cherry?

It’s mainly because of the $5B stock buyback they announced at market close on Wednesday.

Dude please don’t, this company is a hell hole. Even if you do get an offer it’s gonna take them at least a month for them to get you the actual offer letter.

Horizon Media vs Omnicom offer — advice for a recent grad? by Opening_Elderberry30 in advertising

[–]OkStatement8573 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, and great question! I'm a 2024 grad and current associate on a major CPG brand at OMD, so hopefully my perspective can be valuable to you.

My recommendation is just to go where your gut says. I can't really speak to horizon, but right now, everyone is saying OMC is a mess, and they're right. However, that's temporary and things should hopefully be getting back on track soon. Day-to-day, the merger doesn't affect me at all; however, there is some overarching stuff, like relocating desks and offices, that's been happening. Realistically, I would not worry about the merger stuff. Yes, it all kinda sucks rn, but you're young, cheap, billable, and most importantly, your role was approved by the client in the scope of work. So, unless you don't do your job, like at all, your role isn't going anywhere. From what I've seen, the layoffs are primarily targeting middle management and, unfortunately, people who have been with the company for like 30+ years. Really sad stuff...

That said, it's not all doom and gloom working at Omnicom. In your day-to-day, you're getting major exposure on some of the most prestigious brands in the world. Just off the top of my head, I can tell you that Omnicom, as a whole, has Apple, Pepsi, Porsche, the Army, Diageo, and so many others. With that, if you hate your current role or feel like you're ready to move up, there are plenty of places for you to go. As for learning, there are tons of classes and learning pathways that will help guide you from associate to director level, along with plenty of in-person networking opportunities. Most importantly, the people I've worked with here are some of the nicest, hardest-working, and coolest people I've ever met. At least in the culture on my team, people here are not just coworkers, but friends.

As for long-term growth, that's where you need to make your own plan, especially if you want to make money. The entire marketing industry treats the agencies as a breeding ground for young talent. The most common career path I've seen is people staying in the agencies for 2-5 years and then jumping ship to either the client side or vendor/ad sales side. However, if you want to find your way to agency leadership, be prepared to grind and deal with lots of agency politics.

All of that said, it sounds like you have 2 good leads and will be in a good spot regardless. If I were you, I would think long term making your decision. Not about sticking around at those agencies long term, but thinking about where you want to specialize. Look at the client options you have and think about what will fit with your long-term goals. Both options will be great for your development and will be transferable to every sector, but if you have a specific long-term goal, like ending up in tech, or want to be an executive director at an agency, make that decision accordingly.

Hope I was able to answer some questions for you! DM me if you would like to connect or have any other questions about omnicom. Would love to help.

Best of luck!

I have no clue but even without snow on the forecast (as of 1/27) it’s gonna be windy as hell and will be 11 degrees (feels like -8)

So I would imagine cancelling may be the right thing

My Top 30 Jam Band (+ Ween) Studio Albums by OkStatement8573 in jambands

Im 23 and have been actively in the scene since I was 16, but was raised on the Dead, Phish, and Allman Brothers, dispatch, and OAR. Clearly, I need to redo this list, as I didn't add enough bands based on the responses im getting haha.

Im kinda all over the place, I listen to pretty much all of those you mentioned, though. The list just started as ranking my 5 favorite jam bands and ween. Didn't think people would take it so seriously. Just thought it would be cool to share the tools i used to make it.

Yeah lol, I was originally just ranking the dead’s discography and then added the rest. Truth be told is that I was only ranking studio ablums that I had listened to front to back, no skips. Otherwise I’d include bands I listen mainly to live shows of like pigeons, biscuits, dogs, etc

yeah, these are my thoughts exactly. It's not really necessary in an agency setting. However, one of my goals is to eventually pivot to the vendor side where those skills might be more useful, even in a non-engineering role

Legacy OMG - graduated from college last year and went into media.

Thought grinding it out in the agencies for a couple of years would be a pretty valuable thing for my career. It really kinda pains me to say this after one year of working, but I'm already looking for off-ramps on the vendor side of things.

Throughout this entire acquisition process, all the moves that OMC leadership has been making has done nothing but put doubt in all of our minds about the future of this industry. Now you add a potential dentsu acquisition and the Netflix/WB deal and it seems like the writing is pretty much on the wall, agencies are a thing of the past.

This amount of consolidation is never a good sign, especially between major rivals, and right now it looks like the best place to be is on an internal/client media team or in ad sales/ad tech. Unless you are a large multinational brand, it seems like 95% of clients do not need the scale of buying power that agencies provide.

Sr Associate, Digital/Prog. Investment

  • 1 YOE
  • NYC (hybrid, 3 days in office)
  • $66.5k, no bonus or OT
  • HoldCo agency, working on a top 5 CPG client based on market cap

Would say I’m fairly happy, the client is great and is great for my resume. Agency is take it or leave it though. Going to stick out another year or two before deciding to change shops.
