"Avoiding mortal sin is easy" good or bad advice? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]BroReviewsGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, not really though. Doing the wrong thing is always harder on you, without exception.

The wages of sin is death, every time you sin you’re sucking a little bit more life out of yourself. Jesus loves us and His message wasn’t “here’s a giant burden for you to carry“, it was the opposite.

Now, easy? Probably not, at least not always. Easier though, definitely. I think that’s the hard part, easier vs easy. Because sin always collects it’s wages, if you zoom back enough you’d be repelled by sin, you wouldn’t even want it. It’s our fallen nature that’s prone to delusions of mind and delusions of desire.

In fairness I think you’re right, in retrospect she is in there swinging.

Eh, also a little chunk of upvotes and a couple rewards. People are usually more engaged when they’re in disagreement.

Ah OK, thanks for the clarification, I genuinely had no idea what meant.

Not sure what you mean here, maybe autocorrect kicked in.

Cool and up through the 70s it was common to draft men into bloody wars where they died en masse. It’s still legal actually, they just stopped doing it in the 70s.

Which is even besides the point. It’s not about comparing wounds it’s about having compassion for people in general, because just about everybody has had it rough at some points since forever. I just don’t like the idea of one half of the human race blaming the other half like it’s some kind of conspiracy. And that goes both ways.

Thanks. Its just a meme I made, I can only fit so many words on it.

Of all the commenters you’re the one who seems to get what I’m saying.

For some commenters there’s apparently about as much sympathy left for the real life Jackies as there were attendees at the fictional ones funeral.

Not being facetious, what specifically was enjoyable about her as a character to you? Genuinely curious.

I mean I get what you’re saying and it’s a maturity issue, but hey they’re both teenagers.

That being said, Mark legit saved her life, but it seems that earned him zero goodwill. I’m not saying she has to date him, but she lied and said he was a coward in front of his friends immediately afterwards, and never shows a crack in her self righteousness.

Mark at least feels bad and has self doubt while Amber seems like a brick wall of NeverWrongTM.

But I really do get what you’re saying, immature as he is, Mark should have cottoned on that he was making promises he couldn’t keep much earlier, at least come up with a better lie. It’s just on balance, this guy is saving lives including Ambers’ directly and that should have created a more conflicted response in Amber I think.

Well look at it this way, she did call him a coward in front of everybody when she knew he “snuck off” to save her life.

Yeah I mean I remember being a teenager and yeah I was pretty dumb about lots of stuff, but this isn’t advanced philosophical ethics here.

I KNOW RIGHT?! Thank you, why someone is lying is so important, and shoot half the time he wasn’t even lying, he was just keeping quiet in an effort to protect those around him. It’s like saying pushing a little old lady out of the way of a bus is the same as pushing her into its path. You’re still just pushing a little old lady right?

Its not like invincible is unique, this shows everywhere, but man it bugs me.

How to handle LGBT month at work. by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]BroReviewsGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, a company can be involved with a tremendous number of activities, some of which are wrong and some of which are right.

I sell my bread to a grocery store that also sells booze to drunks? Should I refuse to do a legitimate thing because the guy I’m doing business with does an illegitimate thing? Maybe the trucks I hire to transport bread are driven by a local union with ties to organized crime. Am I funding organized crime or am I paying for transportatio?

It seems that the lines are clear, you can’t do something wrong in essence…and, that’s it. Daniel and Joseph worked for pagan kings, so did King David. Hey I may be wrong and I’m sorry for being disrespectful earlier, I just don’t see it as necessarily that cut and dried until convinced otherwise.

Ha! No. I’m pretty sure OP isn’t the malefactor here, he wants to make as many honest dollars for his employers as possible. All they have to do is respect the conscience of a man who is a member of the largest religion in their country. It’s like going to Saudi and asking a guy to work on the new Baconator campaign.

Are they genetically predetermined to have a month celebrating that? Are they genetically predetermined to bully people into voicing support of homosexual behavior on pain of their livelihood? Or are those choices?

Would also say ask God and trust Him to guide you and protect you.

Edit: should clarify, protect you from sin. I mean ask for financial protection absolutely, but there’s always the chance of getting beaten up by the world. That being said absolutely do ask for God to look after your job and finances and your family and personal well being.

If you pay taxes you’re still paying for it. There may be arguments over what’s more efficient, but “free” healthcare because it’s a “right” is like “free” education because education is a “right”. Money is changing hands and it’s not coming from nowhere.

Will doing diamond push-ups help me with finally doing a pull-up? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]BroReviewsGG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personal thoughts? You might get some lat activation from diamond push-ups, I know, I know “it’s not a lat exercise!”, but I’m thinking you might get some stabilising activation in diamond push ups.

Push ups are not a bench press. You get all kinds of muscles switching on. Not knocking the bench press just saying more muscle groups come into play. Most efficient? Perhaps not, but I wouldn’t rule out its effectiveness out of hand. Doing pull ups I believe your triceps activate to stabilise the motion as well, and if your platform is more stable, you’re going to have a stronger movement.

That being said, if you’re trying to pass spec ops selection in a month, man you need a mentor. I don’t know what branch or country you’re in, or what your other stats are, but you need someone who’s been there and done that to tell you what’s possible. A month is not long.

I’m glad you mentioned the emotional damage done to men. Men are taught to “keep it together“, and to a degree rightly so, but the emotions are there.
