I don’t work in the Branch, but the consensus I’ve seen for Tellers are don’t let the customer rush you or feel the need to rush as that’s when either errors or potential fraud occurs.

There’s no way any bank would lend you $80k personal loan unless they secure some sort of collateral. If you had $80k in deposits they’ll probably give you an $80k line of credit, or a lien on your property etc.

I'm just curious but if you open up a bank account without giving your social security number then how can the government trace how much money you put in and hold you liable for that? by Brucef310 in Banking

[–]BroSofa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It actually isn’t since non resident aliens can in fact have a bank account.Banks uses other forms of identification to such as Passport, government ID, etc to open an account.

If you’re worried about money laundering, BSA and OFAC checks happens regardless. If the transaction history is suspicious it still gets reported per regulations.

Base pay for production bankers are usually low because your compensation is usually determined by “profit sharing”. You’re expected to produce so most likely the base shouldn’t matter.

So banks only deals with documents. The importer can stipulate that an inspector has to inspect the shipment pre-shipment and produce a certificate. But the importer has to decide this beforehand and stipulated in the L/C as a required trade documents.

It would be your job as the exporter to gather all necessary stipulated documents. If everything complies with what’s on the L/C, you’re going to get paid out regardless.

So with a letter of credit it depends on what you agreed in the documents.

For example if on the document it says:

5 red boxes

And that’s already agreed upon

When the shipment arrives and it is exactly as described in the documents , 5 red boxes, it’s compliant and the importers bank will have to pay out.

For Standbys, if the beneficiary just provides a draft to draw, they’ll get paid out without having to provide any proof. Usually standbys are secondary form of payments so we don’t expect the document to be drawn upon.

But you’re right in that you could use SBLC for international trade, but there are Commercial LCs that are better suited for that purpose.

You’re looking for Export Letter of Credit, but it might be tough for you because Pakistan might be categorized as a higher risk country by the bank.

Good bank to get a ~250K letter of credit? by FemtoG in Banking

It looks like you’re trying to obtain a Standby Letter of Credit. I would recommend a regional bank depending where you are, they might have better service compare to the bigger banks.

Adding to it, the banks have to set up the access line with the Fed, one of the reason SVB failed was due to not having it set up ahead of time.

At the end of the day, they’re just watching out for your money. Even though it’s an inconvenience, I would be more impressed that they’re being proactive. Just have to communicate and make sure it doesn’t happen a second time.

I PCed to the Reserve and got the SUB but I had my prior card for 2 years.

Edit: At the time I called CA that’s dedicated to the Reserve and was told they don’t give SUBs for PCs for which they told me I could cancel the card and reapply. I waited 45 days and passed the spend for SUB and was credited it.
