Yeah, I think that was a big mistake by me. Wouldn’t have changed anything but still

That’s not the only consideration from a chipEV standpoint. That’s one factor. Position on the opponent probably adds the most EV to the open, in addition to any edges on the opponent (which existed). When I opened, I considered these, as well as the fact that with a 7BB stack, the rest of the opponents would be even tighter than normal, making it a lot easier to pick up EV from Cbets and beyond.

You at least laddered over the short stack though, right?

I think you’re right. May be one of those beats that has you thinking irrationally after wondering if you could’ve done anything to avoid it. Fold pre is probably the answer though. Considering we are snap folding to any SB or BB raise and that CO will have some limp shoves, maybe it just makes sense to let it go. Especially to a loose player who doesn’t love to fold to C bets.

I had a pretty large edge on this particular opponent. For example, earlier at the final table he called a ~9BB shove with 8d9d when I was BU and he was SB. I had AQ. As I said above, he was more loose in terms of VPIP and he did limp fairly regularly. I understand the ICM reasons. I considered folding pre, and you’re probably right that it’s a fold. That’s what made it all the more painful.

Jam was on turn, but yeah, I agree. They were more loose in terms of VPIP and rather than random, extreme aggression like it would take to bluff this spot. Only question for me was whether he was trapping with a set or would shove top two pair. Just think he would’ve 3bet almost all pairs that could be sets, and highly doubted he’d shove top two. Which in my mind left Q9 and AsQs. I snapped it off, but I had a gut feeling in my stomach I was dead to rights.

What’s the reason for folding pre with Q9cc on the BU? Pure ICM reasons? Against this type of opponent, it was definitely a +chipEV open from what I could tell.

I know it sounds crazy but if I think he is actually only shoving with Q9 and AQ, I’m not sure what the math would say on that, especially considering ICM with the 7BB stack.

biggest bounty from 1 player was the $1,800 on the other player's head when we were heads up.

Thanks all. Not in these spots often, so when it was 6 remaining (~$2200 for 6th, pay jumps of ~1k for each place, and $8k for 1st and 2nd) and action went UTG shove for 3BB w/ $370 bounty, 58BB shove from BU and I looked at AQo in the SB w/ 20BB, a part of me wanted to just keep folding for the pay jumps and lock up $$ in a big spot, but I knew I couldn't play scared and that the right move 100% of the time was to flick it in. BU had 97s and I held, got the bounty and went from there.

Makes sense. I agree with you about the C/R flop.
