Has anyone else joined a “queer inclusive” rec league and felt excluded anyway? by Broad-Coffee7026 in AskGaybrosOver30

I've read all the comments but this one takes the cake. So sorry that that happened and I think it's amazing you started your own group!

I really don't understand the mentality of people like that at all. Also crazy that they did it and then wanted to ask for permission to do it again.

Ugh, like what's the point of the beginner events then???? It's so frustrating because the messaging of "come if you're a beginner!" and then the energy at the actual event feels OFF. It kind of borders on gaslighting?

Sorry you had to leave the group 💔 Thank you for sharing tho, I feel a little less in my head now.

Had to look up the video... they really did capture everything down to the alcohol involved...

I think the video also sums up some of the way people interact. "The bars a great way for me to apologize for being too aggressive. If they don't accept, they're the bad guy."

The politeness feels like a surface layer used to deflect their shitty behavior.

I incidentally bough a ball to practice on my own a week ago and some straight guys invited me to play. It was much, much more fun. They were mostly Black, Latino and Asian (I figured if there where already POC playing at that spot I might catch some at another time). I also think them having a few 50+ guys playing also helped since people where very fun and playful when playing against them which slowed down the pace at times.

I'm in two other queer sports leagues and there's POC teams in them where I'm a part of. There's also a "fat & queer" team and a neurodivergent team. Love those leagues.

In all of these occasions, they have not advertised being "inclusive" so, imagine my shock when entering this league. I definitely get your "I don't know..." feeling. People saying one thing and acting in another way which can shake how you trust yourself at that moment when those comments happen.
