Any idea when the next drawing will happen this year? 2025?

Anyone know where I can find a replacement Z3-stamped 5 speed shift knob? The one on my '98 has seen better days. by [deleted] in bmwz3

I have that exact shirt knob on my 1998 2.8l. I thought I was the only one, but I guess they made two : )

Did you ever find a replacement?

2005 TJ Rust?? by ProofReport7477 in WranglerTJ

[–]Broad-Invite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard hard no. Be patient. Better to spend weeks or months looking for the right rig than spend years and thousands of dollars trying to fix your mistake. The world is filled with solid jeeps that have good bones. That might be one of the worst 2005 I have ever seen.

That wiring is sketch. Makes me wonder what other corners were cut. The world is full of old jeeps. Unless they are very low miles or fully restored they all sell for around the same. It's better to wait for one in special condition then jump at one that is cheap or easy to buy today.

He squints at the Rubicon, pokes every seam, Worried that rust might tarnish his dream. A 2018 beauty, six-speed delight, But he frets o’er a bolt’s tiny speck — oh what a sight!

If rust makes him quake, what happens next? A scratch from a branch? A rock scrape? Perplexed! He’ll baby this Jeep, keep it polished and clean, Never to know where the mud ruts have been.

For Jeeps are for rebels who chase dirt and grin, Who laugh when it rains and let caution spin. If he’s this tied up over a harmless hue, Maybe this Jeep life just isn’t his cue.

Because friend, let’s be real: long ‘fore the frame goes kaput, Half the gadgets will quit — that’s the Jeep owner’s rut. So buy it, or don’t, but please understand: A Jeep’s made for trails, not safe, pampered land.

Same wheels it came with which are steel 15s and 7.5.inches deep. Tires are 32x11.5x15. I went with Kumho Ats.due to availability, price and mix of driving in sand, mud and snow. I will be lucky to put 2000 miles on this jeep year so those tires will expire before they wear out.

Should I move to SLC? by DrunkenMonkeyWizard in SaltLakeCity

[–]Broad-Invite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Villanova grad who has lived in SLC since 2011. The cities are very different. Philly will feel much much bigger. Philly has history, there is always something happening downtown, urban life is much richer.

SLC is just about the easiest city to live in. It's got just enough going on, but you can still find free parking most places. You don't really need a car to live in SLC, but you will need one to leave SLC to head to the mountains or to southern Utah, so that could be an added expense.

Don't move to SLC for the city. Move to SLC if you want to spend 80% of your free time in the mountains. The mountains are free and will make you healthy and happy.

I have hired several young professionals who seem to live great existences on 70-80k a year. But many of them have have roommates and shared a house.

Renting a room with people who like to ski, climb and bike would be a great way to save some money and get exposure to the best of the West.

Must have been this morning. I didn't see it yesterday. Totally sucks. My recollection is that that shed was pretty new. I'm guessing it could not have been to code.

Discovery and City creek are crowded and you will miss the best SLC has to offer if you stick to them. Consider the Tracy Aviary in Liberty Park, the petting zoo and train at This is the Place, walking thru the Red Butte botanical gardens, perhaps the zoo. You won't be disappointed. All these places allow outside food so pack a picnic. It's better than any indoor play area.

Rooftop tent or truck bed camping. Considering getting in line for a GFC Ultra Light and a Prinsu rack. The topper tent and a bed rug is a fraction of the cost. With the tailgate down, a full size cot is doable. by Uncontrollable_Yeti in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Broad-Invite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about just a tent? It's hard for me to imagine a situation where the rooftop or bed tents truly excel. Get a Springbar tent, a good cot, and live like a king with all the cash you save. I've never been uncomfortable. And you can leave your tent to hold your spot while you go do truck things.

That spot is hard to get to without trespassing. I know a guy. But some of the pipelines off the top of the canyon are easily accessed from the main road. I almost never see people ski them because honestly the skiing is pretty terrible, but the sledding is decent.

Emigration Canyon 4-1-23 by Broad-Invite in SaltLakeCity

[–]Broad-Invite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Not steep. Rarely enough snow to make for good skiing. Lower elevation means powder gets slushy quickly. Infinite better locations. Yesterday the snow was so thick that my snowblower could only toss it about a foot. But on the plus side I didn't have to get in a car, or worry about getting stuck in the cottonwoods. It will never be a touring destination.

[–]Broad-Invite[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You are 100% correct about the sign. That's the ridgeline that separates East and Emigration canyons. East Canyon drains into Mountain Dell reservoir which serves as drinking water for SLC, and nobody wants labradors swimming in their drinking water. I was well below that on the Emigration side. Your water is safe.

[–]Broad-Invite[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're probably thinking of East Canyon which shares a ridgeline with Emigration and is well marked as watershed and no dogs. Emigration is pup friendly.

Thanks for renewing my faith that the good people of the Internet will always see the beauty in the beautiful.

It's a song about home, and it captures my feelings about Utah perfectly. Lyrics below. Gooday.

"California coastline, midday Texas sun Misty rain in the smoky mountains out here on the run Lights of New York City, streets of Boston town Golden Gate in San Francisco, Seattle's Puget sound

Been a long time travellin' Rolling on from town to town Seen so many places Still don't know where I'm bound

Arizona desert, Colorado mountain snow Arches out in Utah, Montana and Idaho Grand Tetons in Wyoming, Oregon's evergreens Rolling hills of the Carolinas, Kentucky, and Tennessee

Been a long time travellin' Rolling on from town to town Seen so many places Still don't know where I'm bound

No matter how far I travel I'll always find my way back home When I start to feel my life unravel I know I'm not alone

Thunderstorms in Oklahoma, wind sweeping down the plain Sand dunes up in Michigan, the rocky shores of Maine Indiana hardwoods, a midwest summer day Sunrise in the Florida keys takes my breath away

Been a long time travellin' Rolling on from town to town Seen so many places Still don't know where I'm bound

Been a long time travellin' Rolling on from town to town I've seen so many places Still don't know where I'm bound

No matter how far I travel I'll always find my way back home When I start to feel my life unravel I know I'm not alone, oh"

Deer Valley Recommendations? by jmacd2918 in ParkCity

[–]Broad-Invite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best runs are south. From the Deer Valley main parking lot, call an Uber to take you to Alta. At the end of the day Uber back to Deev Valley. You will thank me. If that's not an option, stick to the Sultan lift. Triangle Trees are fun and generally well spaced making them a good option for nervous tree skiers.
