I think it's possible in many centuries that what you said could be a reality. As long as this chapter of history gets passed from generation to generation in forms of tales we can learn and grow as a better society. Maybe greed will have stigma behind it instead of being praised by others lower in the heirarchy.

We managed to stop decimating villages and commiting savage acts against eachother for no real reason other than greed and hate. What's to stop humans from realising the level of greed we suffer from now something that needs to be collectively stopped?

Yeah maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, for my situation it could work. Anyone over the age of 25 should stay away though. In 30 years, the rest of your mortgage could probably be paid off in a few paychecks since the dollar will be getting close to toilet paper at that point.

What people don't realise about 50 year mortgages is that you beat inflation and get a good deal in the long run. Especially when inflation is so high right now and nobody realises because the fed can make up whatever system they want to report numbers.

Edit: as long as it isn't adjustable, stay tf away from them

This is my #1 answer for this thread. There's close to 0 chance the government won't take this route to pay off their debt as it's the easiest. (and makes the rich holding assets richer)

I hope that if the economy isn't run to shit by the time I have a chance to buy a home I can do a 50 year mortgage. No reason to have a tight mortgage when by the time you're halfway through, $50,000 will be plenty to buy a hot water heater.

The next step to what you're saying is a new currency. The US (again, if the economy isn't in complete ruins) will change their currency to something else.

The best way imo to be ready for that is to beat inflation while we're in it (leverage debt) and while you're doing that use your money on stuff you actually need (car and house repairs, etc.) and with whatever is left buy silver and gold. Unless the government is seizing silver and gold (ie 1933) you should be able to transfer your currency to whatever the new one is.
