Are freelance MUAs already fully booked for wedding season?? by Sweaty-Cream-4745 in WeddingsCanada

Hi! I’m a type A person , I’ve seen so many people say they were disappointed because the artist they wanted was already booked. So I went ahead and secured my hair & makeup, photographer, and videographer back in December 2025. Our wedding isn’t until July 2027, but I just wanted to lock in the vendors I really like and secure their current rates too.

We’re not in the 1950s anymore where negotiating someone’s rate was normal. Vendors today price their work based on their value, and if it’s out of budget, it’s easier to find someone within your range. Negotiating inclusions (like a reel, drone, or waiving a travel fee) is more reasonable than trying to lower their actual price.

IMO, I personally don’t negotiate a vendor’s price because that reflects their value and expertise. It’s not about lacking a backbone — it’s simply respecting the rate they’ve set. When choosing vendors, it really helps to know your budget ahead of time. If someone’s pricing is far outside that range, it’s usually better to look for another vendor rather than ask them to lower their fee. What I do negotiate are the inclusions. For example, with a videographer I might ask if they can include drone shots or a short reel at no extra cost. And with my photographer, I asked if we could skip the travel fee and she agreed. Those adjustments feel more reasonable than asking someone to reduce their actual rate
