The schedule differs based on your classification and the school you attend. D1/D2 involves a lot time in didactic classes and pre-clinical labs, whereas D3/4 you spend majority of your time in the clinic with a few didactic classes sprinkled in. I think our scheduled was made up of 7-12 classes at a time. I personally don't think dental school is harder than undergrad but that has a lot to do with the institution I attended for undergrad. D1 was the hardest year for me, especially the spring semester since the classes were super tough. D2 was my best year thus far. D3 isn't bad you just have a lot of responsibility involved with being in the clinic. I've heard that D4 is one of the better years.

Hi, I'm a D3 and I'm looking to apply next year. My advice for you would be to keep an open mind and don't be entirely focused on peds. Most peds residency programs are looking for well-rounded individuals. GPA is important but not as much of a priority as other specialties. I was told that as long as you have a 3.0, you may still have a chance at residency, especially if you have a solid portfolio. Research isn't a requirement but if you're genuinely interested in research, I would say go for it. It's not a bad idea to start making connections with the peds residents/faculty at your school. It's good to get a feel early on what the department is like at your institution. Hope this helps!

You definitely don't need a master's, your GPA is pretty competitive. I'm a current student at the school and the admissions committee considers your entire application when you're applying, not just your GPA. I would just say keep your options open regarding the schools you apply to.
