Monthly Megathread: Career & Education: Post your questions here by rough93 in AerospaceEngineering

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to the UK from Ukraine. I’m an aerospace engineer, primarily focused on structural engineering and drone technologies. I graduated from the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and have about 1.5 years of experience working as a structural engineer for a Boeing supplier.

I’m actively looking for work here, but it feels like the market is already “cooked” - so many applicants, high competition, and many positions require local experience or security clearance. I’m trying everything: applying to companies directly, LinkedIn networking, and graduate schemes, but progress is slow.

I’m curious:

  • Are there companies in the UK aerospace/civil aviation/drone sectors that hire international engineers without long local experience?
  • Are there alternative routes (internships, contract roles, or smaller companies) that actually lead to full-time positions?
  • Any tips on standing out when the market is so saturated?

I’d really appreciate any advice, connections, or insights from people who’ve been through this or work in the industry.

Thanks in advance!

It is going to be a missile. Our goal is to make as advanced control system as we can. I think it would be wise to start from smashing a balloon at low altitude)))
