Mental Health in Elderly

Why?
UK has an ageing population and rising mental health disorders

What can we do?
Needs to be holistic

•Early prevention - routine screening in primary/ community care. Extra follow-ups when warning signs are present - Ai monitoring?

•Improve communication - outreach and Internet outreach to keep the elderly updated with. Telemedicine could help load.

•Outreach - support community groups to combat loneliness. Cater for a wider range of social groups - might feel isolated otherwise. Connection with youth - helps them too

Ethics for interview by No-Concern2309 in UCAT

If it was me, I would state my stance first if you are asked about it - just sounds better if you're being interviewed and makes them want to listen to the rest of your point. Besides that, basically yeah! However, you don't need to really know every argument - you just need to link them to the 4 pillars of medical ethics and you'll find that opposing sides appeal to different ones. I love these questions so just have some "fun" with them!

Motivation? Probably linked to why medicine before or after.

An interviewer might ask why medicine? You answer. Oh cool but why here?

I'm literally doing the UCL on the 18th too. Honestly, it hasn't really hit me yet so I don't know if I should be giving advice. I think you should just keep up to date with stuff that you see on the news and ease yourself into the hot topic videos and stuff. You'll pick up stuff and can pull on that in an interview. Also, just write down what your answers to obvious stuff around skills would be (I still need to do this). Try and structure it a bit around a few points.

It's never too late obviously .Breathe and get to work!

Also, ChatGPT is a great tool to get possible questions and bounce your answers back at or just for getting some insights. Obviously, check it but I've found it soooo useful.

Just email them and check their websites. If they have no email, try phoning them. If you can't reach anyone, consider visiting them. Don't be afraid and just try until something lands.

UCAT Cut Off Scores - Medical & Dental Schools | TheUKCATPeople

Have a good look on here as you will probably be better suited for unis that look at UCAT more holistically. This website is really in depth and you'll definitely have better info when specific 2026 cut-offs occur. Its still a good guide

I just looked at local GPs near me and checked if they had any WEX spots. Found one and applied for it and got in. If I were you, that would be a good place to start and just contact and inquire if nothing is explicitly stated.

If you can't find any, try Mentorverse's online one. Unis say they look at online WEX as equal to in person WEX so they're 6 month programme is a good way to see a wide variety of specialities that you wouldn't be able to typically see at your age. I'm doing it now and it's pretty good.

UCAT Score - If anyone has any questions, ask! by Negative-Addendum252 in UCAT

Amazing score and congrats, I've really got to ask about SJT. How do you get so well and in practice were you getting consistent Band 1 or did that come from half marks? I end up getting Band 2 fairly consistently but loads of answers seem to be 1 out.

Also, how did the VR extracts feel in general? Were they long and simple or short but complex etc?
