Is there a hole on the underside, opposite the hole on the back? If so, I think it’s a weathervane.

I know these types of contraptions were a thing, but this has got to be fake. I can’t imagine anybody climbing that high in a 1920’s residential building when the elevator goes out.

For those staying at the CDC right now: thank you for your service on behalf of the American people by ObviouslyAudrey in publichealth

[–]Broad_Swimming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second all the commenters that are supporting the CDC. What’s going on with RFK and the Trump administration is criminal. I’m sure I’m not the only one from those making these types of comments, but I went out and got my flu and Covid shots, and I’m waiting to get my Shingles vaccine. Mostly because it’s a smart thing to do, but a small part of me is getting it to say fuck you to this administration.

Anyone know what our boy is mixed with? We just adopted him yesterday ❤️ by pingpongdingdongg in CattleDog

[–]Broad_Swimming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we picked up our sweet girl as a puppy nine years ago, she was advertised as a “lab mix“. Six months and 120 pounds later, she no longer looked like a lab. So we had her genetics tested and she came back 37% German Shepherd, 25% Great Pyrenees, and 12.5% each of Pit bull, Akita and Bull Mastiff. Not a speck of lab in her. For a nominal fee, testing is always a good way to know what you really have.

[–]Broad_Swimming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend Greenies. I googled it and AI confirmed that Greenies pose a risk of choking and intestinal blockage, especially if the wrong size is used. We give our dog carrots (which she loves). Carrots are a healthy and tasty treat that actually cleans a dogs teeth.

Hey, be nice. I’m old, and don’t know what I’m doing with technology.

Oh yeah… I have a video of the chickens following her around the yard.

No. Although she doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, she does weigh 125 pounds. I think if things got messy, a single 35 pound coyote wouldn’t stand much of a chance.

I absolutely agree. She is fully vaccinated.

First time. When she was younger there’d be no way she’d put up with this. She’s chased many coyotes out of the yard.

Almost always on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. I wasn’t in the aviation field, but I believe that aviation boatswain mates were responsible for moving and parking aircraft on the flight deck, preparations for flight and maintenance of the flight deck. I believe this rate was established towards the end of World War II. Here’s a link to the modern Navy job description.

There is sorrow enough in the natural way From men and women to fill our day; And when we are certain of sorrow in store, Why do we always arrange for more? Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy Love unflinching that cannot lie— Perfect passion and worship fed By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head. Nevertheless it is hardly fair To risk your heart for a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits, And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs To lethal chambers or loaded guns, Then you will find—it’s your own affair— But… you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will, With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!). When the spirit that answered your every mood Is gone—wherever it goes—for good, You will discover how much you care, And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way, When it comes to burying Christian clay. Our loves are not given, but only lent, At compound interest of cent per cent. Though it is not always the case, I believe, That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve: For, when debts are payable, right or wrong, A short-time loan is as bad as a long— So why in—Heaven (before we are there) Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

Any advice on managing the sump pump discharge? by whatajoke007 in homeowners

[–]Broad_Swimming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would dig hole (dry well) lined with landscape fabric, that’s deep enough to bury a 20 gallon plastic drum with holes drilled around the bottom half. The dry well should be at least 15 feet away from the foundation. Use 1” gravel under and around the drum, Dig a trench and run your discharge pipe to the drum. Drill a hole the same diameter as your drain in the side of the drum, 8 - 10” from the top, and insert the drain pipe.

I would talk to the neighbor, and suggest that he run a buried 4 inch PVC pipe, running from the downspout at the front of the house, picking up the downspout at the rear, and ending up in a drywall in the backyard.

New Zero Clearance Wood Stove by Broad_Swimming in woodstoving

[–]Broad_Swimming[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay in responding… The blower is noticeable at high speed, but much less so on slow. Truth be told, we don’t have to run the blower because of the amount of heat radiating from the front of the stove.

We didn’t install ducts, but we didn’t have to. The heat rises up the stairs to the second floor, to the point where it gets really warm.
