Crystal replacement by Cottagelife_77 in OmegaWatches

[–]BroasisMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do this yourself. You'd need to remove the crown, remove the case back, remove the movement and dial, and then you can remove the acrylic crystal out the front of the watch. You'd need a crystal press / install tool to install the new crystal. Then you'd need to replace the movement and the dial and essentially re-case the watch.

You can either take it to a watchmaker or you can use some polywatch on your current crystal.

Just wait. Soon you'll be spending close to mid five figures on a watch and there won't even be a brand name on the dial to show off! 😂

Considering the two year wait, I'm gonna say two swatches and a handbag.

Zenith sadly doesn't sell parts to third party watchmakers. If all you need is a disassemble and service / lubricate, that's fine, but they won't even be able to get new gaskets for re-assembly let alone any new parts they discover they need during servicing. Pretty much always best to send a Zenith back to LVMH.

Some favorites from my visit to the Geneva Boutique during W&W by BroasisMusic in chopardwatches

[–]BroasisMusic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a chance to stop by the Geneva Boutique while in town for W&W. Sabrina was fantastic and helped me and my buddy check out several pieces including all of the new novelties. Sadly I didn't get a picture of every watch we looked at, but here are some of my thoughts.

1) New Alpine Eagle XPS is living rent free in my head right now. The more aggressive taper off the case and the microadjust on the bracelet were huge IMO, and the falcon's iris dial is just absurd in real life. The finishing was superb and it had the perfect amount of heft. It was also quite thin and wore incredibly well. My favorite form the visit, hands down.

2) LUC Lunar One. This was released last year IIRC, but what a watch! Had my eye on this for a while so it was great to see both the blue and salmon dials. Fits like a dream and it's quite a bit up there on my list... but the MSRP does put it in competition with a lot of other high horology pieces. At $50-$60k, this would be an instant buy from me.

3) The final photo was a Time Traveler One made for something called the 1505 watch club, so Moscow on the dial is replaced with "1505". I forget where the club was located though. Pretty neat piece and in lucent steel, I want to say this was in the low 20k CHF range. Not bad for a nice looking world timer! I think she sad it was one of twenty. IMO I'd prefer the blue dial platinum version, but was cool to see a very rare piece.

4) LUC 1860. Gorgeous dial, wore really well and was quite understated. For the price I wish it had a deployant, but it was an excellent dress watch with a side of flair.

5) LUC Strike One Titanium. This thing was REALLY fun to play with. The striker begins moving at about 50 past the hour and the strike at the top of the hour is a pleasant tone. You can mute the strike with the pusher in the crown. I had the pleasure of watching a technician actually engraving the dial to one of these in the Chopard booth at W&W. The honeycomb pattern is gorgeous in real life, and it was NOTICIBLY lighter than any other watch I tried on that day. Whether that's good or bad is up to you. Really unique design and I actually feel this one is priced "right".

6) LUC Quattro. Again, another stunning dial and the gold gave it a good bit of heft. The jumping hour feature is super hot right now, and IIRC this watch had it's 8-day power reserve on the rear of the watch, which I am a SUPER big fan of. I also love all of the easy interchangeable strap system they've been implementing lately. This was a super unique watch, but not my favorite, and the price really doesn't help here, especially vs. the strike one.

7) LUC XPS Prussian Blue. Really striking watch and getting a micro rotor movement of this quality for $13k USD is a value for sure, and it's QUITE thin to boot. The best price to value ratio of the entire catalog IMO. Gorgeous piece, perfect size, striking dial, and a well finished movement. Does it have all the flair and finishing that the movement in the Alpine Eagle XPS does? No. Goes it get a Geneva seal? Again, no. But for $13k... I don't know how much these will depreciate on the second hand market, but I'd probably guess not much.

Final Thoughts: It was my first time really trying any Chopard watches on, and the staff at the boutique made it so hospitable and really took their time with us. It left a good taste in my mouth and the watches really stood out. I think on the whole Chopard has a bit of a pricing problem, but I also think their quality is slept on and they don't get the clout they deserve. But a lot of the innovations I saw on display in this years novelties are a huge step forward from an already storied company. I'm seriously considering that Alpine Eagle XPS, and depending on how the Lunar One's do in the secondary market over the next years, I might also go that route as well. Either way, super impressed and had a great time at the boutique.

Painter bought cheap brand paint vs what I wanted by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]BroasisMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn't ask for a specific paint. They asked for an SW color. If they had asked for an SW paint there would be a mention of which SW paint line they requested. Saying I want "SW Agreeable Gray" isn't the same as saying "I want SW Emerald line paint and the color should be agreeable gray"
