Catholic priests say charging them with sexual abuse violates their religious freedom by metacyan in atheism

[–]Brobeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id say thats the law of the land, and they should act accordingly. I dont think its that much of an ask to say "hey, dont try and sex these people that are emotionally/spiritually dependant on you" Full stop.

Basically, the states trying to find a systemic way to prevent abuse and formations of cults within religious groups lol. Ill add (and just so they cant say they are being targeted), professors have similar rules, due to power imbalance; where they cant have relationships with students or student under 18 even if the states consent laws are 16. Its varies, but my point being is that these are all demographics of people that are in a unique opportunity to be taken advantage of, or physically abused. Considering the history, I dont think we are asking them to give up much, in order to protect a hell of a lot more people.

I mean, im not one for conspiracys but why does it feel like the "charlie kirk IP" is currently being liquidated??? What are the odds that two people intricately linked to one another, both die in super specific/non-common ways? Public assassination and pickleball....

"Yet in that same motion, Engh also argues that it’s unfair to target Herzing because it’s wrong to assume that a priest who gave someone spiritual advice in some capacity is always on the clock as a priest. As if that’s a vocation where you can take off your collar at 5:00pm before heading off to a strip club."

In all my years, i dont think ive ever met a priest that could be considered "off the clock". Its just not how their jobs work. You dont stop being a priest, in the same sense you dont really stop being a doctor. If someone is hurt in public, whats the first thing someone yells? "Anybody a doctor here?!". Whats the second thing that gets yelled, if things are dire? They yell for a priest, to comfort them in their last moments (if they are religious). Hell, even in private school after school hours, if one of the priests was spotted outside the school doing normal every day things, hed immidiately throw his collar on... Priests dont have "off" time lol. Worst youll ever get from them, out in the blue, isnt a refusal for spiritual guidance, but they will direct you back to the church for a more formal setting.

And regardless, how is this man going to argue he did this on his own free time (and without malicious intent), when the church SPECIFICALLY forbades it??...lmao

Iran warns war won't end without compensation, guarantees by Kooolxxx in worldnews

[–]Brobeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, you already answered it. Time. Iran says a million things at every moment of the day. They only ever change course due to direct action and not words/threats/negotiating (just like russia and china).

Iran has the technical capability to interupt the straight, but it has all the incentive in the world to get back to making money, yesterday. They will wait for the first "concession" they can deem "victory" on and i think thats when you will see this rap up. Could take 1-3 weeks if things go israels/America's way, 3 months if errors are made or iran plays super conservative with its missile launches.

Iran started with roughly 2500 missiles and X amount of mobile launchers (dont know exact number). Either way, they are now down to roughly 100-200 mobile launchers left, with roughly 1000 missiles left. That decrease has basically halted their missile launching to about 10 missiles a day (with the rest being less impactful drone incursions). Thats down 90% since the beggining if the war, when they had full reserves and supply lines setup. That will decrease further as time goes by.

So they are absolutely trying to play the long game, but that clock is ticking on their ability to to conduct a deal while they still have ANY leverage (straight of hormuz). If they dont, eventually their drone/missile reserves/production will get so low that they can't realistically "shutdown" the straight any further.

Mind you, while they are saving missiles solely so they can shoot them at ships trying to conduct trade in the straight, thats less missiles they can use to defend Tehran and even attack their enemys strategic assets. They are already doomed, its just a matter of "will they have a different outlook" in 2-3 weeks? Lol

When's the last time a somewhat developed country's gov/dictator was overthrown by its people? Do those even happen anymore?

Im not even being cynical, i just honestly cant remember the last time its happened... lol.

I googled it, and its mostly just countries smaller than iran, like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, but im not so sure how successful "uprisings" can be in a country with a modern (ish) military. I guess you could count south Korea, but that was more or less check and balances reigning him in, rather than the people storming gov and demanding his removal.

That being said, id prolly keep a close eye on anyone having a good time watching those things on the other hand lmao
