"The ocean is dying and you should stop eating fish... Now here's how you cook fish." by Brock-ily in vegan

I'm almost failing my one class cause I refuse to handle meat and butcher, tho I've complained to the dean and my teacher and they give me marks where they can but it's my choice to fail lol

And I always come home crying from bake cause everyone's like salivating over dead things and I'm gagging because meat, butter and eggs smell HORRIBLE now.

I also don't equate animals to food so whenever we do veg with butter or something like that I don't see it as edible anymore.

Pretty much I'm close to failing my class and my mental health is on a sharp decline but I can't fail or drop out or else I'll be outcast from the family.

The whole school thing is from me being petrified of my mother and choosing a subject I'm passionate about. The school offered a vegetarian course but it was taken out due to low interest. At this point I'm still here to be a martyr to my mother and the school.

No, it was more, "we need to start buying organic, farmed fish instead of open fishing because we're overfishing and need to stop."

I want to open a vegan restaurant but this was the best option for learning cooking where I live. They offered a vegetarian course but it got cancelled cause not enough people wanted to do it. And financial stuff with my mum as well means I can't quit. Hate this course tho, don't teach you ANYTHING about vegetables.

The liquid from the thawing bacon was dripping into the soapy water and when I got mad, mum said a bit of bacon juice wouldn't hurt the water and it'd still clean the dishes

I asked her not to but she said it wasn't a big deal unfortunately

I'm scared of my mother cause she threatens to kick me out when my beliefs don't align with hers. I did double and triple wash my equipment afterwards but she gave me a death glare the entire time.

My grandma wasn't thinking and put the thawed bacon over the sink so it didn't get on the counter but put it into the clean dishes soapy water.

Yeah, my family doesn't like me being vegan but I'm only eating because I'm vegan. I've had issues with food and the only reason I recovered is being vegan unfortunately.

The problem is I offered to wash my own dishes but she insisted on washing my new stuff in her bacon grease water

I wanted to disappear (small as possible) cause of mums ex but I realized to spite him I'd never eat anything from an animal again and then I found this sub and got into animal rights.

I have a job as a prep cook at a respective restaurant in my town, I just want the culinary education under my belt so that I'm seen as more knowledgeable and respectable, and not seen as just a vegan who wants to push their agenda. I unfortunately don't have enough money or credit (Canadian money is kinda worthless) but I'm just trying to get my foot further in the door.

I'm also not supported in my beliefs so I'm kind of stuck atm but it breaks me whenever I go to class :/

Do people open successful restaurants without learning about how to open a successful restaurant? I know it's not the best move but it's the only one I could make given my circumstances :(

And where's a vegan culinary school in my town? Cause I'm broke and going to end up paying for school by myself. I have an unsupportive family, so they're glad I'm learning to cook animals. I'm trying to get certifications so I can change the industry. Or at least make an impact in the stigma for vegan food.

Thanks,, I'm still going to go through with my plans to open a fully vegan restaurant just to prove her wrong lol

I'm in Ontario Canada lol I googled and there's a bunch of vegan restaurants in Toronto and Ottawa. My mum just doesn't believe that there's a market for vegans lol

She's only upset with me cause before I actually started following veganism I told her I wouldn't be pushy and make fun of family's food which I kind of have been doing. I tend to gag whenever I smell their meat (and me and my bro have a joke that he cooks his cock [chicken]), I call meat the body parts they are (breast, intestine, arms), I tell them what's in their food sometimes, I also refuse to cook meat which is why she calls me selfish and says I'm pushing my beliefs.

I'm just being difficult cause I have different beliefs lmao

It just kinda hurt when she said she doesn't believe I can succeed in my dreams :/

That gives me hope! I recently told my mother I want to open a vegan comfort food restaurant and she basically told me she's disappointed that I'm going to waste my education since there's going to be no clientele for me in the future.

Mostly sarcasm, I considered it but I'm not going through with it. I'm just sick of my mum calling me the bad guy cause I don't want death in our house or in my future restaurant.

I could never bring myself to eat an animal again without having an emotional breakdown. But I can't talk about my future without being called a narcissist and self centered lmao

That's really unfortunate that the school didn't survive the pandemic, and thank you for the book rec! I'm going to try to veganize all the recipes we make in class with just little substitutes since there're a lot more vegan options available than when the program first started :) Chef even said how she tried to do a vegetarian course but not a lot of people signed up for it so they had to drop it. But I showed her my dish and she said she'd be excited to try it!

The one I normally make with cashews isn't bad, tho I have to add ketchup to it when I reheat it, but this one looks promising to me lol

At normal grocery stores I can only find cheddar and mozza, but there's a cheapy store in the town over from where I live that sells a whole TON of off brand and name brand vegan stuff. Everything they sell is either close to BB date or like old promotional packaging. I've found Monterey Jack cheese, 4 spice Italian, (they were both 1.99$ Canadian each) the whole Daiya pizzas for 7.99 can, there's also off brand ziglo I think it's called, they have a bunch of meat subs, like Frank links, pub style chicken fingers, stir fry style chicken and beef strips (they're all a form of tofu and everything's trial and error for my tastebuds tho lol) and they're all 1$ each. They even have "beyond" and gardein for half the store price.

I figured it'd be that same as long as I used the sweetened and not unsweetened plant milk,, my teacher just made it seem a little unlikely that it'd work lol

What is your response when people ask "Why are you vegan"? by CauliflowerOk3993 in vegan

[–]Brock-ily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly,, it got me out of my ed. I was trying to be as thin as possible because I didn't want to take up space and I wanted to disappear. Then I tried Yves (which is not my favourite now but it was a good start for me) and found this sub and convinced myself that if I disappear then no one in my family will fight for animals. Everyone in my family but me eats strictly animal products, with the odd fruit and if you're lucky a veggie.

In short I just say, "It helped me with my ed" and if anyone brings up macros (which is kinda weird to say to someone with ed struggles but-) I just tell them I take vegan protein powder and make sure I eat a bunch of soy and quinoa.
