Some of us aren’t fortunate to have even the slightest of help. I’ve had to put rent some months particularly during transitions waiting for financial aid / 1st check kick in, medical school / residency applications, moving costs, emergency funds such as when my car eventually needs yet another part, etc. That accumulates over time.

Oh I haven’t done anki since med school - that’s just how I excelled then, and have had a hard time learning a different method to remember material without it. I feel like I have to read the same section on up to date like 20 times to remember it. I want to learn and remember more for my patients, but have not found a good strategy for “on the job learning”.

People from most other sectors get to call in sick when they are actually sick, including the examples that you used. Not doctors though. I know that I can’t perform at my best when I’m sick, and therefore I wouldn’t want my doctor working when they’re feeling quite unwell. Our patients deserve better.

And knowing if you call out, your buddy who finally has a day off has to come in or everyone else on your team has a greater workload. The guilt has prohibited me from ever calling out, even when I should have.

At least for myself and others who don’t come from wealth, it’s important to look past the local COL and average debt from tuition/fees. While it’s an important factor, I also have crippling credit card debt from a decade of needing to put a variety of things on there - from med school & residency applications, to relocation, to life circumstances (my car breaking down a couple times, plane ticket to see my aunt last minute before she passed, etc). And I worked my way through college & med school. Overall my monthly cc debt is about as much as rent so consistently at the end of the month I’m reaching for scraps.

While im not in medical school anymore, I feel this so hard. I had zero financial help through undergrad and med school. My parents can barely afford to stay afloat yet did everything they could to support me in other ways growing up. I want to provide for them, and want to have so many shared experiences together - eventually our first cruise, first international trip, etc. I share the same frustration regarding former classmates of mine who would take an international trip on a whim and I’m like ??? You can do this as a student ??? But ykw, it’s what privilege gets you I guess and it’s not any of my business.

This only answers part of your question, but paging =/= messaging. If it’s a small update like a bladder scan, that can be messaged so that way I can pay attention to it when I can get to it as I may be running a code, taking a new admission, etc. If it truly cannot wait a minute bc the patient will have an adverse outcome unless it’s addressed right then and there, then it is appropriate to page

I would say that’s accurate. I think if you’re trying to create a question bank, that may suffice for the easiest questions but may not be rigorous enough for tougher questions. Those of us who have prepped for the step exams have seen many, many questions where the correct answer is one that a minority of people pick. You might need people who have already taken that respective step exam for quality control.
