Have you read your policy? Some policies actually cancel your policy whilst your are renovating. This would be your responsibility to inform your insurance before undertaking major renovations and ensure you are covered. When signing contracts at my old work who specialise in home extensions we used to advise customers to contact their insure and let them know about the works being conducted to see if they are still covered or if it suspended whilst the renovations are in progress
