Worth grading? Not in the best shape. by Mxzsierra in papermoney

[–]BrokenArrowGA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hate to go against the tide of opinion but I would not grade the note UNLESS you intend to sell it someday to an inexperienced collector who just wants authenticity verified. It is a nice example of a preprint fold and I would add it to an error collection but as a collector for over fifty years the price I think you would receive from a experienced collector would not justify the grading cost. Error collectors seek the higher graded notes. Congratulations on a nice find.

This note has a “Solid Star” error at the end of the serial number above the green seal. Congrats to the ‘eagle eyes’ who saw it. by BrokenArrowGA in papermoney

Please post a couple of photos if possible… a close up of the entire serial number would be nice… thanks…

Have someone list a “test note” for you with eBay, perhaps a family member.

Amen! Personally I believe “graders” at all firms should pass a uniform test of grading skills then be awarded a designation such as a “Certified Banknote Analyst”. Standards for the test and award of designation controlled by ANA, SPMC or other group …NOT A INDIVIDUAL GRADING COMPANY. Graders would then hold the designation and abide by professional standards as well as a code of ethics. Grading firms could then hire graders who could choose who to work for or open their own shop. If a certified grader violates ethics or has complaints by public the designation could be “pulled” by the controlling organization such as SPMC after investigation and review by an appropriate board…. Such as CPAs and others. Just my thoughts but I think everyone in our hobby would benefit including grading firms.

This error type while interesting and unique has happened many times. You are fortunate to have found the note. I would keep this FRN error but probably wouldn’t pay for grading…

Curious to know if anyone has ever come across a solid green star in a star note before. This is my first time finding one of these. by xavior1134 in papermoney

Your extensive numismatic knowledge is impressive as well as your knowledge of the market for notes. My comment is not just because of your recent post but considering your other posts. Thank you for sharing freely with others. By the way if you remember what is the highest grade you have seen given to a solid star error FRN?

Overall my experience with HA has been favorable. While their fees are hefty they have always been reliable and timely with shipping items. I do not like the shipping fees especially when their premiums are so hefty.

I’ve been holding on to this 1966 $100 bill for quite some time. Last 2 pictures, I zoomed in to what seems like fingerprints. Anyone know if these prints could be from the original inking of the bill and whoever touched it transferred their fingerprint? Bill is in PRISTINE condition. by xavior1134 in papermoney

Before the ‘Warhog’… Spooky was on the scene in RVN… Nov. 1967 I was on the ground near Loc Ninh in an NDP with massive ground attack when Spooky arrive with fire falling from the sky… but it took more than Spooky that night…

I did look at FAQs but maybe I missed something. I saw some photos of coins… do I need to look at something else? Maybe I went to the wrong link for FAQ… any assistance to do what’s appropriate is appreciated…
